You do realise making a gun shoot 7 pellets is changning about 2 lines of code.

that's pretty impressive, I hadn't seen a shotgun quite like that before.

still, 175m is rather weak compared with the M1A4's 1000 m and the SA80's alleged 1500 m effective range.

close combat though, shotgun would be powerful. BUT look at the type of shotgun modeled. that's not an AA-12

 

But remember that none of those weapons exist in empires.

 

175 m (this is the converted feet distance mentioned in the comment about the frag12, an armor piercing shell, it is not the pellet dispersion round) with a 1cm pellet dispersion is rather weak? that means that your target has to be smaller then 1 cm to have a reasonable chance to NOT get hit by at least 1 pellet,
okay, most of the pellets will not be on target, but you will still hit him quite formidable if he is a man larger then a few centimeters... sadly only a few humans are as large as a few centimeters...

it is in my reasonable opinion that you are in fact quite biased about shotguns, or that you want to blacken the idea of a shotgun in empiresmod

Shotguns WILL NOT hit past 150 yards. Dunno how many meters that is, but i think it's around 150~. after that, the shotgun pellets lose their forward momentum and only have one way to go. Rifles shoot further because they have 2 things that allow them to: They spin and they have an aerodynamic shape that allows them to cut through the air.

a .22 will shoot flat around 2 miles before it drops. but shotguns, from personal experience, don't last that long.

 

150Ft is about 60m.

Doesn't sound right, they shoot down birds farther than that.

 

And 150 yards is 450 feet.

 

The middle section in Money, including the bridges, is less than 200x200 yards.
A barracks is a little more than 20 yards long.

shotguns can be rifled too (they ARE rifled too, mostly making the pellets spin and increase range and accuracy), and depending on what ammunition type you use you can get ranges of up to 300 meters, mostly this is not the conventional ammunition though
