The developers and every long time empires player agrees that the play style of camping/sniping doesnt fit into empires so why make the weapon even more effective? First you argue with real-life to have a argument for you sniper rifle and now you use video-game-reality to have a argument against a shotgun? That is just absurd you dont even stay in your topic to find arguments. Smg sucks against mortar and assaultrifles in empires so you the engineer has a hard time to kill people. That only shows that you dont really know anything about the balance between the classes Why do you cry about a mod that you dont like anyway...
Have you ever considered the possibility that we're giving him the shotgun so he has to get close to the enemy? Right now he fights at absurdly long distances.
Mhhm, Well blargen. Heres a simple alternative. Let the shotgun be another weapon thrown into engineer's arsenel, and the scouts. But, I still would like to use the Iron sights on the SMG's. I mean, EVERY gun has iron sights. And it shows Iron sights on the guns. Why not let us use them? I mean there still SMG's none the less, not snipers. We would at least boost our effective range up a bit. I can see the reasoning in giving the scouts an SMG but, common man. The riflemen gets iron sight use. And we need to pull out some uber useless rifle that cant hit 50 percent of the time on a perfect conditioned shot at medium range if we want to be able to fight at range Period. give us iron sight look, or give us cookies!
Only rifles have ironsights because SMGs aren't supposed to be accurate enough to be used at distances where ironsights are useful, instead, they're CQB weapons, and melee works well with that.
Just about your critique about shotguns in real life You are wrong, shotguns are one of the most versatile, powerful and useful guns used in battle and law enforcement if anyone who does not like you is holding a shotgun and he is closer then 200 meters to you, just run because the more distance you have the more chance on survival, if you are shot at with a shotgun at lets say, 100 meters, you will fall to the ground and bleed, you will not stand up, you will just lay there and suffer... in fact they Nerf the shotguns in computer games because they would not be balancable if they would behave like they do in real life your point on there ammo being bigger and heavier then normal guns is true, but the fact that you shoot the equivalent of a full pistol clip at the enemy in just one pull of the trigger kinda balances that back out to the shotgun, fact is you mostly don't need that much ammo in the first place to do the same kind of damage and i am not even speaking about the full automated shotguns, those guys really obliterate a squad of enemies with just one ammo clip... shotguns are mostly given as support weapon because they are expensive, and are easy to use by an untrained soldier but still even more lethal then a normal rifle... they are the butchers knife of guns in fact most people will not die from a single rifle shot, unless vital organs are severely pierced with a shotgun shell you will go down, and you will be hit all over your body, making survival far less likely...
compared to automatic weapons, accurate at three times the range of a shotgun, shotguns are old and ineffective.
if they are shooting a slug. but im assuming since this is an internet game and all game shotguns shoot shot ( lol akward sentence) that this one will shoot shot as well thus making it innacurate or if the spread is tight making it a little more accurate people will complain.
let the shooty shot mini cameras and stuff, big shells means you can deliver alot of gadgets with it :D

This game is not supposed to be realistic, it can use any kind of ammunition with any kind of properties that we want it to.
Well, If a shotgun is put in, I suggest it be slug loaded, so that it has effective range. And its alot easier to code in slugs. Shot would be a bunch of pelets doing certain damnage and all of that, if you used Slugs, one bullet, a few properties for the damnage and range, Itd be fine. In my opinion, it should be like the NF HAR. But, i propose pump action, and slow reloading unless you want to make it a clip shotgun with semi automatic but, if you did that, that would be just copying the NF HAR. I still want SMG's to have Iron sights, at least for scouts.
i would like to see a spring bolt action scattergun for a change... you don't see many of these in any game...
