Recon, you clearly have no idea. I'm tempted to invite you to the private test later this month just to be there while you eat crow.

Would you like to point out a single (or multiple, I care not) claim that I've made which you believe requires modifications?

I'm optomistic about any new content. Good luck BSID.

You clearly have no idea how the Source engine works.

In general, 3rd party content can take the following forms:
    • Art - Maps / materials / textures / models
    • Code - Some type of plugin (VSP, MMSP, SM ext or SM plugin)
In Empires, scripts can be modified, but as of 2.24, must be replicated on the client (although there are probably some minor ones that don't).

Further more, modifications to the client or server binaries (which you can't make) require both the client and server to be updated (thanks to class tables).

Given those facts, there's not really much that you could've done (without hacking the client).

    It's an idiom.

    @Recon
If you think any scripts are being modified on the server or the client, you are incorrect.

Unless you managed to somehow hack either the engine, server or client, you can't make modifications beyond custom art and minor gameplay. If you did, I'll certainly eat my crow.

did you follow the link? It means to have to admit you were wrong after taking a strong stance on something.

I'm being told I just showed my age...

"Eat crow" is an expression meaning one will regret what one says at a future point in time when they are proven wrong.

Recon, this was said on page 2:
So I really don't understand what you are trying to prove by continuing this field of discussion.

I commented that they can't make major gameplay changes without client side modifications (even with source access, class tables will get in the way).

Just giving everyone a reality check.

why don't you save your reality check for after this has been released?

Remember, even more so with programming, there's always more than one way to skin a cat. Given what Darkest Dawn does, I wouldn't want to get anywhere near game scripts or binaries, hell it barely even messes with cvars.

If you would be excited by the notion that I turned Empires into something else, you will be disappointed. If you would be excited that I have added a new layer of depth to the gameplay, you will be estatic.

Darkest Dawn will not overrun/ruin/modify Empires. Changing Empires is for the Empires devs. Darkest Dawn complements the mod, it doesn't mod the mod.

You shouldn't try to pass out reality checks when you don't even know what has been made. Your points thus far have been moot because you're saying certain things cannot be done... certain things that no one said were done. I have a reality check for everyone as well, you cannot port Gears of War 2 to the NES.

If making tanks fall from the sky is a major gameplay change...
Not that I'm expecting Darkest to do that. :p

I'm expecting it to be like Tc_Hydro.

It will be something like pug?
    Worldmap and stuff?
Maps that are linked together? (depends on who won last game etc)

Zealoth, by far you have the closest idea. I wasn't a part of the PUG so I cannot say what is the same and what is different, but people in the know have compared it to the PUG. There is a persistant worldmap, and winning games determines control of the map.

The original concept is from Headshotmaster, who credits the idea to improvements that could have been made from the PUG.

And, like Empires, HeadShotMaster is the official Darkest Dawn Mascotte.

Soundspawn, you're leaking all the pertinent information. :p
(The Tc_Hydro reference is related too. The game mode is territory control in TF2.)

"It does not require specific/custom maps. [...] ...but available maps are the choice of the server owners/admins"

"A developer may choose to include Money in their custom/future boards, but the starting boards do not."

"A standard game of Empires is like the battle, this is the war. You do want a war, right?"

"It uses standard maps, any map that works on a stock Empires server will work.
There are no scripts that effect gameplay, however this is one that controls autoteambalance.
Darkest Dawn has it's own objectives, but they do not conflict with Empires in any way."

    It's called hype.

Do you get this upset when a sporting event is advertised? I already said I'm working on a Q&A and that I'll link it when it's done. Should I not answer questions in the meantime?

It tooks months of planning and research, and about a month of coding, not easy to "just tell everyone what it is"
