I said the tester thing to the guy talking to be about the shotgun =P LOL and you just said things to me I never even said? When did I say I have more rights because I'm a tester? I just stated to the guy that I am a tester when he asked if I have tested. So no need to say things like :]]

Again you didn't listen to be. I just told you not to make it like that. I told you how to balance it with a dramatic damage drop for people who try to use long range sniping. Leave it's damage only at medium ranges that most riflemen fight at. Now have a group of riflemen fighting another group. In the group, u have the rifle. The other squad can't tell who that is proned has what weapon. In that time you sniper starts picking people off with headshots(esp. engys that run and revive), while your team is damaging and suppressing fire. Having the rifle can change a whole battle to help your team win. That's 5 well placed shots at medium range for 5 dead targets(that can't happen at long ranges because of the drop in damage over distance). The gun it balanced in because it can't be used alone. Yet in a group, it can pick off targets easily. The other team has a squad of people to choose from to shoot so most likely you wont even be targeted. The ones firing automatic rifles will be.

The gun thing makes no sense to me. Mortars are fun for the people who use them, as are HMG's and pistols. Everyone loves their own things. It's irrelevant to the sniper rifle. I gave how to balance it instead of take it out. No longer long range and no invis. Tell me how that doesn't work :]]

What makes no sense to me is that you propose a medium-range sniper rifle. If the general consensus is that rifles with accuracy can do a sniper's job at long range, then why the fuck would we need something for medium range. What your suggestion is (High dropoff at long range and no invis, if I understand correctly) would be a weapon that couldn't compete with the current rifles at short, medium and long range. WHY WOULD ANYONE USE IT??? You're so blindly attached to the idea of a sniper rifle, you'd probably use one if it was made to fire paintballs.

LOL through so many of my posts I called the new weapon and how it will be used as a designated marksman rifle(DMR). Look at that up before you put your facts at me =P

I just told you guys the difference in having a DMR. I guess I have to sya it again since no one listens to me. There is a 5v5. You are on BE with the DMR and 4 riflemen and engys(none with rev). NF has 5 rifleman plus engys(and one had revive or even not). Now instead of a battle between who can fire a assault rifle better, you have that one DMR. At that range it can take out a engy reviving easy AND riflemen. They will be trying to kill any target they can see firing at them first which will be your teams riflemen. That gives you easy time that you aren't under fire to take out those targets and your team will have a MUCH higher percentage to win the battle compared to just normal assault rifles. So before you say it can't compete, reread everything I say ok? It's called balancing. You can't make a DMR weapon pwn or it would be a sniper rifle and again the 80% noob thing would happen. Now make a teamwork weapon that changes tides in battles(esp. in begining of maps when infantry fight for valuable resource nods. Only difference is noobs wont use it because it wont be like a sniper where they can hide in back and do nothing. In return you will easily have about one person with it which means more people as engys or riflemen. Then the one DMR man takes out targets and the extra engys build faster. So there is no need to insult my intelligence and say Im attached to the sniper rifle because I am not. I'm attached to the DMR rifle I use in the games, not the sniper rifle most noobs use.

Why would anyone use it? Because it changes the tides in medium range battles for res nods, yet has dramatically less people using the gun because it's no longer just a sniper rifle for long range hits. This is esp. good for people who suck at using assault rifles. Now rebuttal after you actually read what I say please? :]]

You can't stop sniping by removing a scoped rifle. It's possible to do it with handguns and machine guns... so that's still someone laying somewhere doing what they want to do.

Example: a rifleman is a medium range sniper. Like in insurgency, when i got my m16 i am getting headshots and chest shots from huge distances... and people would try and argue that game isn't about killing either... thing is i play this game and that game to kill (driving jeeps is only main reason i play this one though lol)... winning is pointless... just a message at the end... i'm gonna do what is fun for me regardless of what my team or commander says. And nothing is more fun then getting off a headshot at 3 miles, but i've done that recently with a machine gun lol

If scouts were removed... if invsibility was removed... it doesn't affect me... i often go out there scouting with increased stamina (for faster follow up shots) and using the terrain as camoflauge.

I can also equip a machine gun with increased accuracy... (or increased deadliness... it depends on the range i will be shooting)

Example: your in the middle of the map making a resource tower... O SHIT THEIRS BULLETS FLYING ALL OVER THE PLACE AND YOU DON'T KNOW WHERE IT'S COMING. <you died>

see i can do that with a machine gun... a sniper rifle is more clean killing... like a smart bomb... but a kill is a kill. You can't stop sniping. The only thing that will change is more commanders freaking out at rifleman lol

First off, stop calling it a "DMR". I googled and wikied DMR and what I got was a semi-auto sniper rifle, which is still technically a sniper rifle. Time and time again you fail to come up with realistic reasons as to why this weapon would be an asset. Your little 5v5 scenario doesn't mean anything. Wheres the guarantee that one of the NF riflemen just wouldn't shoot the sniper guy. If its at medium range like you claim, I would have no problem as a rifleman doing the same job. Oh and by the way, we already have an semi-auto high-accuracy rifle.

The main problem with your idea is that, rifles will be just as effective, but when your squad wins to conflict and decides to move up, wtf are you going to do. As a rifleman, I can turn the corner and gun down anyone with confidence. Whats a sniper gonna do then?

correct me if im wrong, Time To Die is proposing a bolt-action, 1-2 hit kill, medium range rifle with a scope.

i see no problem with a rifleman having that.

before your next post in this thread take a deep breath, forget about the scout, and decide if you think the above weapon has a place anywhere in empires.

And he's proposing this, we have this. Basically identical in purpose. I'm pretty sure Empires doesn't have modelers atm, and if they did, there are a lot better things they could be modeling.

First of all, check this link for the role of a Designated Marksman becaues wiki has weird definitions.

    Linky

"The DM's role is to supply rapid accurate fire on enemy targets at ranges up to 800 meters (875 yd) with a highly-accurate semiautomatic rifle equipped with a telescopic sight. Like snipers, DM's are trained in quick and precise shooting, but unlike the more specialised "true" sniper, they are also intended to lay down accurate rapid fire."

"Designated marksmen are integral members of regular infantry squads or platoons, much like machine-gunners or grenadiers."

"* Snipers usually take a fixed strategic position and camouflage themselves (e.g. with a Ghillie suit).
    * DM's usually change positions with their squad, and may or may not have more camouflage gear than other infantrymen."

So now tell me again how having a DMR is wrong with the real definition? You are assuming that everyone knows how to use an assault rifle at medium ranges with acc by knowing how to shoot it instead of the usual hold down fire(which I see all too much). Many people who play this game can't use assault rifles effectively at medium ranges because they don't know how to shoot it. The way they shoot, it can take magazines worth to take a target out. Now you take one precision shot to his head and there you go. Your squad just got the upper hand. AND if someone does decide to shoot at you first, that just gives your riflemen an advantage to shoot at them without taking fire back. So after reading that, tell me again how it wont work? And don't assume everyone knows how to shoot effectively because I find most riflemen don't when I watch their shooting styles :]]

And this weapon isn't for close range so you wouldn't even use it on a map with "corners". It's meant for big maps(like most maps), esp. in beginning when you fight for resource nods. A DMR gives the upper hand in a battle. He himself is seen as a high priority target, and he takes out other high priority targets. Helps your squad both ways :]]

And it's even better because you can just change around the NF rifle you've shown to make it into this and then add one for BE. Then that NF gun will have a better use in games. And again, this has nothing to do with the scout or long range snipers :]]

Give me one, single, solid argument on why should riflemen get a sniper rifle (beside OMG he has a rifle in its name !!11)

And btw, its the scout that is the cancer, its the rifle.

LOL ok how about you go reread through my posts? Instead of me having to repeat everything everytime someone new joins the debate with no clue what I'm even talking about.

LOL sniper rifle. Yeah that's what I've been fighting for this whole time... 0_o

And someone already even posted that the NF riflemen have a version of what I'm talking about. So I can add that too all the rest of my argument you obviously didn't read =P

Well you finally admit we don't need a new gun, congrats. What you described is the NFHR. BE doesn't have one? Well apparently that's going to change in 2.2. Let me repeat. One of the BE's rifles are going to be changed to match, but not mimic, the NFHR.

That information is from developers and testers, albeit in IRC, which has proven to be less than reliable.

"<Beerdude26> The BE AR will become what the NF HR is, and the BE HR will become what the NF AR is"

    "<President_Dick> make the BEAR a burst-rifle"

    "<Mayama> yeah burst would work"

So this point of this thread is no longer the sniper rifle, it is giving BE a weapon more compareable to the NFHR.

No you still didn' get my point. I'm saying to change that NFHR more fulyl into what I jsut described. I'm saying you have something to base it off of instead of having to make a complete new weapon. So you still didn't understand what I meant. A bolt-action rifle with a scope that gives it more accuracy for medium range shots, yet the damage falls drastically for long range shots. Have is used EXACTLY how those quotes and the sight I just have shown said. Now the gun will have a great use, esp. for beginning of maps. Yet, 80% of people wont use it because those are the people that go camp for long range kills. This gun forces teamwork with squads at medium ranges where by yourself it would be ineffective. It's perfectly balanced in making it a team work weapon. And if someone used the, they will shoot at you first deal. Then that means that's less fire on the rest of your squad to target them enemy AND if you are good at aiming you can still take out targets before you are killed. That's 5 good bolt action shots which can dramatically change the battlefield. Easier then noobs running around with HMG's or assault rifles who cant' shoot at all and just hold down the mouse. This helps them actually do something as riflemen.

So you are wrong. It's about taking out the sniper rifle and putting in a DMR. Whether changing the NFHR into it, or making 2 new weapons or each team is up to the devs. This way atleast people who still like some sort of purpose in sniping can do it, but it requires teamwork or is ineffective. Most people will not use it for that automatically and that leaves it to people who help the team :]]

Funny i'd say the same about you.

Seriously this is a game. The people that play it can't be "commanded". Their not your clan mates. The best you can do is earn their respect by encouraging them and trying to get them do do what they want in a way that helps the team.

Example: tell snipers a good spot to observe and kill the enemy.

Example: tell that engineer in a jeep where they should drive.

Example: tell those 4 players that just bought jeeps to find the enemy com, or take down walls 3 miles away, or flip/pin the enemy cv.

Example: don't tell them anything. Not all teamwork requires micromanagement or them being 4 feet from another player.

The worst thing you can do is tell them to not go scout or buy jeeps.

Hey the mobile infantry understood the need for people with different weapons..shotguns...snipers...short rifles...long rifles...nuke launchers... lol

3 guesses what kind of copter he is piloting first two don't count.

    Answer: failcopter

Server admins are way to lenient with putting up with dumb asses who just waste teamslots/resources. I have nothing against new players. Last month when I had my mic back and was playing I had a person go from never played before to third on the team in one game and not just from calc spam. Everyone acts like the learning curve is huge but its not. Admins never want to temp ban/kick people who are just dicking around wasting slots on teams and resources even though they ruin the games just as much or more than regular griefers. I'd rather have someone on my team trying to mine the cv then constantly wasting tanks/jeeps/exetera. Say what you want about BSID admin abuse but we were on top of griefers/exploiters/gameruiners. Unless we were the ones griefing/exploiting that is..... buahahhahahaha ma_cexec gi-jane +attack (after she drops 8 mines) = win.

I consider you worse than a griefer.
You ruin the game for others around you because you don't care. That's real nice in a teambased game, if you want to be a freaking rambo do it in HL2 or Crysis where nobody cares, if I see you on my team you're not getting vehicles ammo or healing, since I don't care about you.

Beerdude is also the most awesome person ever. You insult him, you insult me and a lot of these forums.

Leave this awesome thread alone since people are finally getting somewhere with our debates instead of sniper ROCKS cuz it kills or take it out cuz it kills me :]]

By getting soemwhere, you mean, you're winning, because you had 90% of the posts because I wasn't here to outspam you. You're about 1 of 3 voices in the empires community that wants the rifle kept.
But mostly you fail to realise the most important thing.

This thread's OP was not to incite debate.
    It was a statement.
