Well, if the hatch isn't open then how are infantry supposed to pop out of it? And generally, vertical just looks much better than having them flat backwards, especially when every tank uses vertical. It also gives the player in it a bit of cover so he doesn't get shot from behind. And honestly, I thought you already knew, I only just noticed you have it down in all of your models and it occurred to me that you might not be aware of that. Is it going to be a huge amount of work to fix?
It can be easily fixed now, but I thought it would be better for the guy in the hatch because you cant really control the coer you are provided. And most people tend to turn the turret in neraly spastic movements, that I found it is more hindering you to shoot, then providing cover. You get more cover by just exiting the vehicle.
Yeah I don't really see the need for a vertical hatch. And actually I think it causes a few problems.
Imo all the tanks look a bit better with the vertical hatch, but if others genuinely disagree then I'd be more than up for discussing it.
Vertical hatch? the ones that are left open on top of the tanks? I hate those... they block second seat shots but, not people from shooting you... its retarded.
As long as it's opened and doesn't look like a severed half of a player is sticking out of the turret, I don't mind either way.
For me personally, having tried the hatch flat and vertical way back during the Dies Irae project, it seems like having the hatch vertical gives the vehicle a much nicer profile. To be fair, this isn't so pronounced on the BE Medium, because it has the 2 aerials at the back. But on other vehicles which don't have vertical aerials, such as the APCs, AFV/LT, NF Medium and Heavy, it tends to make them look pretty weird without the vertical hatch. But then again, we're discussing the BE Medium, and I would probably agree that the vertical hatch is least important on the BE Medium, because it still manages to retain a good profile due to the aerials. I mean, I think it looks better with it up, but it has a much less pronounced effect than on other vehicles.
In terms of looks I entirely agree that having the hatch raised makes the whole vehicle look less flat. As far as gameplay is concerned however I find it is more of a hindrance, the hatch has a tendency to catch the projectiles you fire from the second seat. Particularly rpgs, mortars and sticky grenades.
remove the hatch completely and just leave an open hole in the top. Reasons: sideways opened hatch looks shit, but has higher usability. upwards opened hatch looks shit ,but fits empires style, but also fucks up the user experience when in second seat.
So here are some things I've been working on this month: BE Heavy Rifle new textures, not finished: BE Heavy Tank new textures, well it's just the normal map and a coat of gray so far: NF shotty, new model and textures: All textures are 2048x2048
