There is, but a 21" Full HD display is far from it. That is just 102 PPI and you would absolutely see the difference compared to a 150 PPI screen.

Nope, link pls. I was hoping for a long time someone would release a 1440p panel with a smaller size. 117 PPI might be enough for acceptable text rendering and also allows native resolution gaming at decent FPS.

    @Viro
What will be your main use case for the monitor? The NEC you want is so expensive because it also has full AdobeRGB coverage, but that is something only graphic designers/photo editors need. If you can forgo AdobeRGB and 16:10 then there are options out there that deliver the same quality at half the price. Eizo FlexScan EV2336 for example.

For gaming, anything with the new Nvidia Gsync chip is interesting, I haven't seen it in action myself yet, but reviews are raving about the improved smoothness.

If you are just looking for a good allrounder, I'd also say a 27" 1440p IPS panel with a light anti-glare is a good choice, like the BenQ BL2710PT.

Best bang for the buck for coders and what I would get if I weren't waiting for 4k IPS is this 4K TN, iiyama ProLite B2888UHSU. 480€ for a 4K screen with adjustable stand and a USB hub!

Anyways, there is a lot of stuff happening in the monitor market at the moment, more than in the last 10 years combined, 4K panels, 144Hz, Gsync, 21:9 widescreen...

Well I watch bluray quality movies from my computer as well as play games. Staring at text for hours is something I also do.
The NEC model would fit all of them... that is until I found out about that issue. Anyways... it wasn't going to be too expensive since you can get it on Amazon for $700(ok ya its more then some people are willing to spend but, better then 1k msrp).

edit... its sort of important to have good dark colors since the sci-fi and "scary" type of movies use darker tones and a lot of monitors can't really show dark well.

eww.. 23" and a touch screen?
Well its gota be better then staring at slightly blurred text. How much and is there anything wrong with it?

edit: hold on never mind. It has a color depth of 16.7 million colors. Looking for something in the billion range.

Unfortunately, deep blacks are the only weakness IPS monitors usually have. If you look at a lot of text I'd go with 1440p atleast.

Well i remember reading somewhere that there is a type of IPS that can handle dark colors well... I can't even find it now... I was just glancing through tons of sites when I gleamed that. You would think I could remember it since its an important quality to me.

There are display types that have better blacks and similar viewing angles like IPS: VA and PLS.

I don't really care about viewing angle at all really since I will be sitting right in front of it.

    Needs:
    • at least 1billion in colors.
    • Great black levels
    • at least 24" but, not to much over. Size of available screen space limited.
    • no more then 8ms response.
    • NO FUCKING TN PANELS!
    • I don't want cheap shit unless its quality cheapness, as in, on sale.
    • Multiple inputs are wanted but, not needed. DVI or HDMI at least.
While IPS panels generally fit the above description I am open to others. The only ones I rule out are TN panels

I hope you know that you need software and hardware support for 10-bit colour (=those billions of colours). A wide colour gamut is not necessary for displaying deep saturated colours, that is where the contrast ratio comes in.

Anyway, maybe the HP DreamColor Z24x is what you are looking for.

Current age video cards can't do 10 bit?

btw... that monitor you suggested looks to fill all the needs. Will research for flaws later.

Those were examples of software that is used in a non-full screen capacity.

From my interpretation, you're only reaping the benefits of a 10-bit panel if you're in full screen mode. That is, unless you pony up for a pro GPU.

Like I said early, there are always kinks with this kind of thing. It all comes down to how elaborate your system can get before you can't tolerate it anymore.
