As I discussed with Trickster last night, Craig and I have time left on the dedi until the next billing cycle, I would put VIPER back up if needed so the community has a place to play until EPIC server is sorted. I will wait for Trickster to let me know.
There have been a few minecraft servers on that box, openTTD, CS:S, TF2, and other shit, depends what we're playing at the time. Mainly it's used for Empires, TS3 and our web stuff It's got an NS2 server that MOOtant just threw up running at the moment, Deif has his own minecraft server for his RL friends I think. Idk, we can host anything on it really, there's nigh on unlimited freedom. But as for Empires, you need a dedicated server. Also, avoid games server rental companies like the plague, they'll charge you extortionate amounts for shit hardware. And finally, I always heard that in the US, because rental prices are so much higher than in the EU, it's more economical to buy a box and then pay for rackspace, but obviously that limits your ability to upgrade it.
We should start playing NS2 together... We'd rape pretty hard. I havn't played in months but last time I played absolutely wrecked face.
I took down the Minecraft servers ages ago because I couldn't be bothered looking after them anymore, and nobody ever played on them. Deif only has his up rarely and I don't think it's for public use. Also, EPIC's box is now the lifeblood of Empires. What does this button do?
Actually, we wanted to ask if it would be possible to host the epic minecraft server again because Nihia obviously can't run his 24/7 and his server is bit laggy but we never got around it. I agree with the anti-social part though but we are happy to have more people to play with.
If you have anyone in your group capable of maintaining a Minecraft server and keeping it populated I'm sure Trickster/Deif would allow you to run one (seeing as I'm not responsible for giving access).
Vicki killed Empires! But no, casual American players will not stay in EPIC after the Euros leave. Also, the Empires' master server list is always fucked up so people can't find any servers until it is in their favorite list. Since VIPER is probably the only US server in people's favorite list, Empires will die every night (unless enough vets fill/maintain the EPIC server during NA's evenings).
That was assuming trends remain as trends. I doubt anyone here predicted that VIPER was going to up and disappear; I most definitely didn't and I doubt you did either.
go join allready we were getting messages left right and centre to bring it back. looks like there was a call for it after all..... also we did feel bad leaving the best part of the US player base without a decent ping server.
