Agreed, hated all the BS when lag ripped me off several times. Hobbes will now learn the pain of driving when you have a ping of +100.
Maybe but Vipers is not as bad for euros as Euro servers are bad for North American players. The majority of the active player base is also North American.
It's hard to be exact but just by looking at the clans. Most clans are North American based. EPIC being the only real Euro clan. I thought this was common knowledge that empires was mostly populated by North Americans.
Not true. You'd never see a Euro with a sub-120 ping on VIPER, but you commonly see East Coast US guys with a ping as low as 90 on EPIC server. We even took averages once and this actually played out. But the main issue is, whilst Euros might get 120-200 ping on VIPER, US guys get from 90 to 250 ping on Euro, because of how far out the West Coast guys are. The averages are lower on EPIC but the range was much lower on VIPER, it was much more central. Also, the active player base is only based on what server is active. You went on VIPER and there would be more US guys playing, but if you joined EPIC last night at 2am GMT (UK time), you'd have still seen at least 70% of the server being EU, in excess of 40 people. Fact is, a lot of Euros won't play when VIPER is populated, and a lot of Americans won't play when EPIC is populated. We need both servers.

huh? no more American servers? Whats going on? THE END OF THE WORLD?! ﺠ_ﺠ ok... no really... wtf is going on? is this it? Well there goes my empires gaming experience. Epic servers give me 180 ping min with 2-3 spikes of 2k a min. Bah... now it will be know to me as Epic lag.
Problem is the overlay. Quite often EU guys will play until like 2-3am on the EU server, and US guys will quite often play as early as 8pm on the US server (again, UK time). Genuinely, it's all about the overlay, during which only one server can be populated and that's when there's the most people playing. It's either EU or US at that time, and one half of the playerbase gets the short straw. A long time ago we had enough pop to fill both servers at this time, but that's sadly not possible now. it was the first server I went to, and thankfully it was filled with very helpful people that day, Viper will be missed. The Americans have been left as orphans with no other choice but a European server.
thank you all for your kind words. Many things have gone down over the last 2-3 years while having VIPER, pertaining to VIPER, that was stressful but I kept going on keeping it alive. Everything from being dossed, g4tc falling apart and left flying solo w/o notice, among countless other situations that occured. There is not enough players to fill 2 servers. Which leads to other incidences. If and when empires playerbase grows to the point that more than 1 server can be filled, I would definitely consider resurrecting VIPER. I thank everyone who has adminned, played and supported VIPER Server It has been my pleasure to host this incredible mod.
