Hi All, Just wanted to start a thread to try a field the reasons why people either appear to be attending the 1.08 server (since around RC12) or, to put it another way, why those that have 1.08 don't play more often. Naturally this could be as simple as: "I have Vista (64bit), and since going Empires 1.08 RCx it's bloody unstable" (my excuse!) Just a shame that obviously we need people to feedback crap and help the development along.
nuke tanks go a long way to making me not want to play, as do some clan people who cry if they don't win easily.
Baby gets in the way of my gaming. Ever since my son was born I rarely get a free hour to play. And even when I do, frequent interruptions require me to quit on the spot or become AFK. But when I do play, I enjoy it immensly.
everytime I play its either district, glycencity, urbanchaos or escort, with 1 or 2 classicmaps. Ive never been a big fan of the conquest maps, since the start, still love the mod and will be playing (and if i can somehow contribute) as long as it exists, just not as often when I know most of my time will be spent playing conquest maps. If I really wanted to play this gametype 80% of the time, I could just load up ET:QW beta or ut2k4 or some other game that is heavily balanced on this concept and of commercial quality.
Actually for my taste there are too many city maps like Urbanchoas, Glycencity or District in the map cycle. Everything that makes Empires special (Vehicles, Research, Commander, Resource nodes, Buildings, Bases) becomes unimportant. Those maps are just about infantry combat and if I have to be true there are other mods that do that a lot better (Dystopia, Day Of Defeat, Insurgency). I prefer the large open maps like canyon, duststorm, mvalley or isle. At the moment empires is like making chocolate cookies without sugar, butter and chocolate ending up eating pure flour. The other problem is that there are no people online. Everytime I want to play there are at max 2 players on the server, most of the time 0. The PUGs are the only opportunity to have nice games. *Waiting for public release* Playing with noobs who complain about bugs is still better than running around on an empty test server. *EDIT* wow, dizzy, we hade the same thought at the same time :D
QFT Commander maps own the other ones. Conquest maps are ok if the ratio is like 10 cmdr maps to 1 conquest map.
I play enough Empires as it is. I play at least one game a day. But when ever there is nobody on I sometimes will sit in the server and wait, it usually takes 1 hour to get about 5 vs 5 game going.
Whenever I see more than 2 BSID players playing, I decide, "no thanks, I dont feel like stacking/getting stacked with them" and I go join a 1.07 server. If someone is offended by this post, well maybe you should, oh I don't know, not stack.
Meh, i'm wqaiting on a euro server, the lag makes it more fun to play 1.07, the few times i DO play it's because all the 1.07 servers are empty and i need my fix
