The learning curve is like trying to scale a 90 Degree cliff without equipment. But its fun as hell. Example : BOATMURDERED http://lparchive.org/LetsPlay/Boatmurdered/intro.html Read through the whole thing. Its absolute chaos.
This ^ (60FPS = How many DF years = 1 IRL year/month/week..or whatever the fuck you want it to be) *EDIT* Fuck sake Vulkanis! Simple question. Simple answer. Now answer the god damn question...anyone.
Heres a rough Guide to DF, 40D which is the version in these vids isnt very different from the current version. The major thing is that You need to irrigate farms now. Also their Hidden Fun stuff in the new version. Also known as HFS, which is a spoiler so don't look it up. Its cool stuff. Here watch this guide Trickster http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=41D2B1931AD3D770
This is a guess but I'm thinking without pauses you could blow through a year in 15 minutes or so. Depending on your level of micromangement, though, it could take hours to get through a year w/ pauses. The default frame rate is 100 fps and that's what I play with.
I've played around with mods in the past but I've mentioned before in this thread that I don't believe there is a good reason to use mods if I still haven't mastered all of the content from vanilla, and in 31.08 there is plenty of new challenging content.
A normal framerate for a starting fortress would be 100fps, and since you pause the game a lot i can't really estimate how long a year is. I find that a year typically lasts an hour for me.
because this entire thread revolves around my question also yes on picled statement, if you havent scaled the surface of what df can offer, dont mod it too much (besides for a tileset, and some mods to ease the managing of the game
Believe it or not, the world doesn't revolve around you. I wouldn't even know what your question was unless I scrolled back through the thread to look it up, but I'm sure you'll remind us.
wut 15 minutes for a year wut wut more like 15 minutes a season, at full fps (which i never get in any decent embark).
I think you're underestimating how much time you spend with the game paused. In the normal course of a game you spend a lot of time paused accessing menus and so forth, even when you're not expanding your fortress. Just the day-to-day functions of a fortress require at least some pausing every now and then. I'm fairly certain you would be surprised at how fast a year goes by if you didn't pause once. As far as FPS goes, I always have max FPS to begin with and I usually embark with a 5x5 area, but your mileage may vary and that could distort times.
that was a reply to trickster nagging about not getting an answer to his question, and being like "first useful post in this thread" when he did get an answer i agree with your post, just direct it at trickster next time or something lol
I guess the fault is on my side, my english is not that great i thought it was clear, guess il just stop trying to be funny hehe
