I know the last couple failed, and that was basically because people didn't take their turn (myself included). I stole an idea from bay12 forums had an idea where all interested play one year from one starting embark, same item build and dwarves, etc. We them submit our year 1 map to the DFMA, and vote whose fort is the best/coolest. We all then get that save and play another year from that save. He someone doesn't take their turn it doesn't really matter, we just will vote a different fort. what do you guys think? Wishlist: - Genesis mod - Medium non island - higher evil / savagery - more civs - max water in caverns 20% - end generation year 50 - min temperature 50 (so no freezing climates) - cavern density 20-80 - no aquifers - EXTRA BAD DOODS post for moar plz.
Well this sounds cool. +1 all the way I support this. All though Im a bit rust sign me up. Evil ocean = awesome. Legendarys are lame, I don't play with them. I like droves of conscripts doing battle with equally skilled gobbos for mass destructive battles. It kinda makes me think theirs a purpose to all the weapons I make 24/7 out of my forges. Possibly we do all screenshots in stonesense? Also we need to find one of these http://mkv25.net/dfma/poi-23093-topofthetower
I agree, I've only just gotten back into DF, and I have to say I haven't managed to figure out the new military system yet. But will still be awesome. And stonesense is something i've wanted to try out for a while.
i dont get the military system at all i tried figuring it out, but ten just stop playing df and waited for a good tutorial + some later edition so the bugs get out (crashed like 5 times in 60 minutes while in the military menu)
Sounds like a good plan but in the newest version, is all those pesky bugs sorted? like being unable to work after being in the military, acid rain, no aquatic life, no decay on vermins, non-working medic system, leader deaths disallow new ones, complete shutdown of every single dwarf due to pathfinding bugs, Bronze colossus being unkillable without magma, etc if its not done yet, then lets stick to 40d...
version 6 is out and it's the most awesome thing ever STFU In christianity you can go to hell In dwarf fortress you can go to hell AND CONQUER IT edit: holy shit version 8 is out downloading now
0.31.08 is pretty damn cool. lots of bug fixes. And apparently with the new military system, once you get your head around it is FAR better and easier than the old system. And now underground farming requires irrigation, even in soil. Personally, I really like this new version, but haven't had a chance to encounter some of the new underground stuff. Also, hi Pickled. Haven't seen you around for a while.
I quite like 31.08, It fixed the dwarves working themselves to death thing and a bunch of other stuff. I started a fort next to a volcano in a glacier and am about to start attempting to get a military up and running before i dig to the underground stuff. hopefully i wont get any forgotten beast made of vomit this time :D

I should be careful about spoiling it, but you need to start fucking digging. There's like 70+ Z levels on most areas and let me tell you what... they are jammed full of shit to explore. Anyway, my fort is going to be the best so you may as well not try.
Rightie since we got a lot of people interested in this and since most bugs are fixed i guess we will play the 31.08 version. May Green tileset (if you dont use this, shame on you) Vanilla for windows edit: LINUX AND MAC SUCK, L2WINDOWS. Suggestion: lets see who that can find the most interesting embark team and area to play in for the start area: Generate a custom world and add a special seed in the tag, then anyone can recreate that start area by running the world generator and going to that location (this way its not bound to using a specific start team yet). for the embark team: post some FUN embark teams and equipment. after like 2 or max 3 days we should have decided on a nice area and a fun embark team to play with.
