I'll use my newly acquired 6800GS to try and get some decent footage.

Because of this thread, I went back and tried another pass at fixing demo playback. I made some progress but ultimately failed. :( I have asked Valve for help again.

ok i recorded a game where i commed, the total time of the game is around 11 mins

this is part 1, the biggest one

    part 1 : http://www.megaupload.com/?d=4JNVGWKK
    part 2 : http://www.megaupload.com/?d=9Q3VB6T3

first part is above 100mb, 2nd part is above 60mb

I dont know much about compression settings, so if anyone knows a better compression or whatever, then plz tell me, this is 3ivx codec, with sound and in 1024x768, but it looks kinda shitty D:, uncompressed it was above 8 gb

ok so i skipped the first minute of the game, because you never know when your team is going to listen, from there on its till the end of the game.
game might be a bit stacked but I hope there is something angry can use for the movie, and for everyone else can watch it too ofc.

You might notice some mistakes i made, with my turret dropping timing, and ignoring one person waiting for a ref, my team did all the work, they did a great job, altho we did have 2 persons more from the start, well im just a comm not an admin

i'v got a great set of programs that i use for recording whats happening on the screen , it can record up to 2 mins , but thats fine because even if theirs action on screen , 2 mins is a life time , so maby 10 - 20 secs of footange per scene

    i use "riverpast screen recorder"
    to record it

and i use "smartsoft video converter"
to convert it to mpg - it can also change quality

both of which are free !

Just wondering but how do you build more stuff when you hit the building limit? The building limit seems to work find for me.:( Maybe it the server? I don't comm much so I can't really test this out.

Pity i didn't see this earlier - there was this beautiful game where you had 4 arty tanks slowly advancing on the Bernodi fortress base on crossroads, firing in a staggered pattern. Occassional RPG fire fired out from two grenadiers hiding in the fortress. Quite beautiful, actually.

I tend to take videos of funny stuff that happens from time to time.. I could make a sample video like you said, I've done similar things with other games, so I think I could whip up something simple for this one.

BTW, FRAPS doesn't really hurt my computer that much, so I could prolly get some beautiful sequences.

I've completed mine now. It's not that good, as my computer really gets hurt by fraps (<5 fps). Comments and criticisms welcome ;)

If you want to use any of the clips, PM me.

Edit: Hmm, it goes odd about 30 seconds in. Oh well.

Valve has responded to me that demo playback failing is most likely a bug with their code, and they're looking into it.

Would it have anything to do with the fact that spectate doesn't work properly?
Yeah, that was The Buttery Lobster being his usual self :)

I take it you mean the lack of a spectator GUI? No, spectate has nothing to do with demo playback not working.

    "startmovie 'moviename'", then "endmovie".

This dumps loads of screenshots into your root folder, with a sound file. You then combine them all together.
Edit : Wewt! I are now senior citizen of teh forumz!

Bodrick , i'v tried what you said ( and different variations )
but i can't get the console to accept it , just one error after another
can you give an example of what you type in
    without the "then" etc.

just as it is , thank you

Ok, join the server or whatever. Then go to the console and type:
    Code:
    startmovie movie1
. (If you want your movie to be called movie1).
It should then come up with
    Code:
Started recording movie, frames will record after console is cleared...
You then go back into the game, and record your footage. When you are done, type
    Code:
    endmovie
. It will then come up with
    Code:
    Stopped recording movie...
    .
In your Empires dir, you will find a load of .tgas called movie1001, movie1002 etc., and an audio file. You then combine all those pictures together with the audio, and you have your movie. It will then need to be compressed etc.

"river past screen recorder PRO" works perfectly for me.. you can record compressed.. not that good, but better for the ones that don't have 2 terabytes of HD space :p
