You do realize that the blimps will have jet engines, don't you? Add to that, the emergency ability to unleash a large amount of gas out of the rear of the vessel and you have the equivalent of an afterburner! Of course, the screenshot of the battle blimp posted in the other thread makes it obvious that the larger blimps won't be as fast as the smaller ones.
Realistically, air craft are too good for gameplay in Empires. Flying a fast 200kph jet around any map renders all else more or less inadequate, if not useless. I don't know how aircraft will be implemented, or to what extent, but I have a few thoughts. Blimps with deployables... just kidding. Jetpacks...Rocket Man style. Blimps in role of artillery. Helis in role of tanks. For the historically illiterate... Blimps were used to devastating effect in WWI until the development of effective contermeasures such as rockets... Bullets had little affect and blimps were line with gunners to make attack planes look like peashooters. Balloons acted as spotters for artillery. Still, it would be sweet to fly a plane above an enemy base and have paratroopers drop in on the enemy. I assume that the air transport is a Chinook? As always, Al Sharpton for president bitches.
We'll see what happens. My guess is that, along with aircraft, anti-aircraft weaponry will be introduced. Also, all of the aircraft's stats (including speed and effectiveness of weapons) can be adjusted to make things more fair. The only thing "devastating" about them was their psychological effect, as the actual number of kills from them is no more than a few hundered. Aso, they were extremely vulnerable to aircraft and antiaircraft weaponry. Blimps actually were the most effective against submarines in WWII. They could match a submarine's speed, and stick with it until the sub was destroyed. Additionally, since they were airborne and not waterborne, they were invisible to sonar. So, unless Empires is planning on introducing naval warfare as well, I think I'd prefer aircraft.
Engineers should be able to make blimps. They'd be remote controlled, about the size of an SMG, have one hit point, and explode for 5hp. They would be worthless, but hilarious.

interesting , youve all heard about their being a navy implimented at some point well , how are we going to have aircraft carriers now ? i mean , since when has their been a blimp carrier

good idea mr quackums. There could be other airborne marine life as well. Air to Air Attack Dolphins Deadly heat seeking pirahna Sea Bass Bombers Super Stealth Deep Sea Crab Scout Craft ( this one would be partially invisible and have a deadly short range pincer attack!) It would be nice to have some 1 man transport aircraft too. Maybe Seahorses with rocket launchers for eyes. Just some ideas Cheers
Cuttlefish = Hovertank. On the subject of the blimp dogfights, hands up who's played Gmod's "Pirate Wars". Similar concept, perhaps.
