How's this sound... We can decide this crap AFTER we've had a closed forum test and discovered whether or not people actually DO stupid crap like that. Then again, should we have a driver class just because some RETARD could make a billion-dollar paper heavy with nukes on it and die on the first mine he idiotically runs over? Or what about those people that put no guns on their boom tanks? Or drive their CVs into the water? Having a class won't solve a damn thing, it'll just annoy us more.
everybody hates halo. i'm just gunna make myself REALLY unpopular by referencing it. you know how in Battlefield games, or in well, halo; after your vehicle dies, you join your fellow marines on the ground? you fight along side them. you have something to live for. the gameplay flows. I honestly can't think of a reason to survive your tank exploading as a pilot. i really can't you wouldn't want to survive. no point. until someone answers this I'm going to treat requests for a pilot class the same way i treat requests for mechs- fingers in ears, screaming profantities until i find a corner to adopt the fetal position in.
I'm with Sandbag. I thought mechs might be amusing, but in all honesty Empires isn't the mod for them. Some other mod needs them someday. Because mechs are awesome. Except anime mechs, which usually suck and are completely retarded. I oppose pilot classes with every fiber of my being. THEY WILL NOT STOP A DAMN THING! Making it so that NO ONE gets a parachute, however, will solve everything. Have fun landing that expensive plane IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ENEMY BASE WITH ALL THEIR AA TURRETS FIRING FULL BORE AT YOU! Oh, that's right, you'll fall out of the sky like a burning comet. And since you weren't flying a loaded dropship, you'll hit the ground hard, pop out, and be assfucked by the comm, or whoever comes along first. Then, your whole team will yell at you for being a retard. And you won't try that bullshit a second time.
I think parachutes are a bad idea, but i also think that the pilot class if a bad idea. Parachutes simply would make the game too arcadey. In bf1942, you could jump out of a plane 20 feet above the ground and parachute safely. Also, to implement truly awesome dropships, parachutes will ruin the excitement of being landed into battle. The pilot class is a bad idea because it relies too much on the assumed idea that the player will have access to a plane. What you'll get is a line forming at the aircraft factory with noobs who want to be pilots. Without the pilot class, at least they can at least jump from their queue fast to help defend the base. The pilot class in FH only worked because there was a way to limit them. Unless we get some kind of skill requirement (xp points maybe?) to pilot an airplane, the class would be a noob magnet.
Megel posted this a long time ago. I assume it'll be used in empires in the future, can't be sure though.
Um... 70% of all tank pilots survive by jumping out at the last second, you do know that, right? They pretty much don't stand a chance either, but they survive! Same would apply for pilots in enemy territory. I don't play often, and with 2/3rds of all tanks I send to scrapyard heaven, there's no driver kill included and I gotta tanker after them.
chocobo: if you search youll find a thread krenzo started a few months back (mabey over a year, wow) about how different classes should be effected by blackouts, and their resistance to it.
There are plenty of occasions where I jumped out, and got right into another tank someone else was driving. There are occasions where it's handy, and that's why you should have a chance of survival.
And pilot classes would work. Or else you could say only grenadiers can drive tanks, because a rifleman or engineer or scout can't stand up to one in direct combat.
crashing happens after your plane has hit 0 health. What about right before it hits 0 health? My idea for ejector seats was that they don't work once the plane gets to 0.
Make engines have seperate health indicators, shoot engine, lose part of your power and control. shoot cockpit and main sections, and all power is lost in general. Shooting out an engine may make it much harder to save.
the point is that people shouldn't be able to just abandon their vehicle whenever the like. if they want to get out, they can park it. if they're gunna die, then instead of giving them the ability to jump out the split second before they die we give them the opportunity to survive the crash. now please slithzerikai tell me why a person in pilot class wants to survive being killed? so they can run back to base and join the end of the que for a new aircraft with all the other noobs? or once you learn how important time is in empires, more likely suicide spawn back to base.
If a pilot would be the only one to get an aircraft... Being unable to defend himself, that would scare some noobs to high heaven.
