And then we have the scout problem all over again. Empires is too open for sniper-like weapons. Too much cover and tanks can't effectively navigate.

NEWSFLASH: empires already has sniper-like weapons. Just because they don't have a scope on them doesn't mean you can't kill anything in the clip plane in a few seconds.

And people do nothing but bitch about them (see: this thread.) Nobody likes sniper-like weapons.

Just because something has a scope doesn't mean it needs to be a sniper rifle, think of it as being more like the SMG in crysis in single shot with an assault scope, you're better off just repeatedly shooting the centre of mass, the scope simply lets you see better and makes the ranged combat more fun because you can see what you're doing, as opposed to shooting at a few pixels and relying on the death message to tell you when you've killed someone.

A game with a graphical interface should use it to show what the player is doing.

you cant zoom in the SMGs -> melee
and before you suggest to remove that better put your flame proof suit on ;)

also the NFCar and BECar WOULD turn into sniper rifles ...

Did you read what I said?

I said it COULD be like an SMG in CRYSIS which CAN be given a scope and DOES work better if you shoot for centre of mass.

Jesus christ it's like talking to a wall sometimes.

hahaha - yes i read it. therfore i added "also the NFCar and BECar WOULD turn into sniper rifles ..."

and a scope wont fit on any other weapon ... (ARs usually dont have scopes ;))

You can change the NFHR and BECar...

You don't have to give them high power, small clips, and near-perfect accuracy.

but then they are like the scouts failrifles with higher ROF, leading to higher DPS, leading to snipers resting on their bellies waiting for their pray - its not like roflemen wouldnt do that already ...

No, then they work like the guns in crysis in single shot with a scope... Or even exactly like the NFHR/Carbine do now, you aim at someone and mash the fire button until they die, the difference is that you can see what you're aiming at now.

You don't need to get headshots because you can kill more easily by just hitting the person repeatedly with the gun.

I've made a balance like that and I know how it works.

IMO ironsights and melee should be separate commands. Every weapon should have ironsights on alt_fire and then a melee key should be added. That works for every weapon except the RPG/mortar.

so i scrapped this idea and now cant even remember what i wanted them for ^^

having a tertiary weapons function in general would open up all sorts of cool things for people to do.

You only really need two keys, melee and firemode select, which can be used to select any other functions the gun might have.
