i've played a few games where a new player was com and learning, and never had someone yelling at them, just "bad research" or "shit armour". guess i play at the wrong time
coincidence? (do i use it correctly this time candles? ) you absolutely should - if theres one asking for this kind of treatment its paradox
because they are all busy testing for the new version! (except me, Sorry. Promise to post me crash dumps as soon as I sober up)
and you could make their whole damn server just disappear if you wanted to. Why does MooJuice have admin? He almost never plays...
eliminating spec doesn't do anything. people get around that anyway. the issue is that wading into the game takes additional effort than other games. in cs you can just hop on a server and kill and die and the social element remains key. in emps you need to baby sit the CV and playing the game looks more like a chore the command vehicle is an active burden on all of those playing. the volume of players isn't great enough to make the commander play engaging in pub play. empires combat works well on its own and the need for a commander drags that down. making commanderless versions of the official maps will revitalize play. if people have to do less thinking than running and shooting, they will play more. besides the RTS element is only a hassle in the current state of empires and empires on the combat side works decently as a free battlefield clone
Viper should direct all new players to the man with the beautiful voice http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-Y6w4QEUec&feature=related
top three reasons why i quit: stacking always the same maps (we have enough maps, but people always vote the same and when a different map gets voted its a shitty funmap like rainbowroad or octagons) lack of fixes/updates and new content
Yeah , it almost seems as disguising players names during pre-com is literally the only thing you can do with that.
the reasons why i quit: 1) community voting for gimmicky and/or unpolished custom maps (95% of ALL custom maps shouldn't be on servers at all) 2) lack of quality maps (source's fault, can't be fixed unless with a shitload of time) 3a) not enough players 3b) therefore not enough servers, therefore no option to play on standard setting servers only
1:95% of custom maps are good. (or at least playable) But you have your rights to hold personal opinions so w/e. 2: Define quality maps, if one map has a good balance setting, I don't see quality is an issue. 3a: That's because you quitted, dude. 3b: 3a pretty much caused this, plus the game itself is already complicated, adding ten servers with ten different settings only worsen it.
What the hell are you talking about .... i never changed anything, ... and i reread it and can confirm that no one else had edited my post either Congratulations then, you are one of the reasons why i stopped playing empires. Playable means it doesn't crash, not that it should be played, and certainly not that it should be used on the ONE server with people on !! Agree a little bit, but ... 1) if a map looks like complete shit, it NEEDS almost perfect gameplay to make people ignore that it looks like shit 2) 95% of ALL custom maps look like complete shit but do NOT have near perfect gameplay. Not even close. Yes, my standards are higher than that. You can complain about that all you want but that won't change the facts. I don't blame anyone for this btw, it's a shitload of work to make good looking empires maps. Actually i do blame server owners for putting them online .. they did kill empires by doing so. I wouldn't have enjoyed replaying the same maps over and over again, but that would've been ... doable. Those unpolished maps however are an absolute horror. Better would it have been to tell those wannabe mappers the maps aren't good enough, and with some luck half of them would have gotten improved to a point they'd be fine because of it. Well duh if people didn't quit, there would be more players obviously ... But that doesn't mean that it isn't a valid reason why i wouldn't play. So you don't want to play the original empires? I complain that there weren't enough populated servers to be able to play on a server with standard settings, and you complain that having a server with standard settings would make things too complicated ?? I'd welcome having one setting for ALL servers: the original setting I also have no problem with people wanting different settings, just as long as i don't have to play on those servers. But i had ... there only was one server with players. And why are you actually answering my post at all ... those were my reasons as requested by the topic poster. Complain about it if you want, but those are still my reasons. What the hell ... I had forgotten what this community was like. After half a year of spending time on dutch forums, it's easy to forget that intelligence isn't spread evenly across the globe Also you do get arrogant on dutch forums, but i can live with that
Why? So people can then vote for stupid maps How many times have i nominated emp_chain (200+ hours of work, only played it ONCE for real) only to have it outvoted by Octagons. Honestly, imo the empires community consists of stupid people. I no longer saw a place for me here. The only reason i stayed for so long, is that empires is still unique in it's genre, and i do LOVE the genre.
