Dustorm - not exactly my favourite, but most of the time its decent gameplay. Mvalley - I still think dam is stupid, to say the least, but imo best map there is. Cyclo - varied gameplay Xroads- I know I'll get much shit for that, but I just love cluster fucks. Except for the shitty still not fixed T-towers and arty. Canyon - not balanced at all, looks like shit but is still not bad. Homeland? I don't know about the com bugs, but gameplay is not half bad. Midbridge? I liked older versions more. I'm not really fond of the cosmetic bulshit that's been added. I don't know about the custom made maps, most of them just makes me want to question if the mapper smoked crack during mapping. Read: They are shit Overall: Empires lacks decent maps even more than it lacks coding and models. Calling current conquest maps silly is like calling Herman Goering a petty thief.
lol, totaly forgot about snowbound. Most fond memory of that map, droping 32 mines under our CV on brenodi so we could blow it up to the silo, had NF soilder step on mine(s), CV was on the silo, Fire the nuke, and quickly drive the CV in. yay exploits! But really, Traders isnt that bad and nor is tropical vendetta. it may be gimmicky, but its still has good gameplay.
I still love snowbound, shame people dislike the oppressive stalemate that just has to occur after 40 minutes of gameplay and the people that still like to exploit the poor rocket :/
tropicvendetta is actually good cause it has a third objective. there's nothing wrong w that imo, maps could use more objectives beyond refs, why not?
It's not really a 3rd objective, given you can't kill the CV until you've done it, it's just a 2-part CV kill with an unsatisfying ending. I'd like the map a lot more if the CVs fell onto land or something. I enjoy tropic vendetta a lot but the ending always feels cheap.
I'm not going to read this whole thread because I am lazy. I'm sure its been said before but I'd throw my weight behind Chain before anything else. Visually it looks fantastic - good enough to be in a commercial game, with enough players it plays good too, the random start point stops it from becoming stale (slaughtered) and the elevation, although somewhat disorientating really makes the map feel bigger than others of the same actual dimensions. I really don't know why it isn't played more often.
Chain is both visually appealing, and plays well, and it doesn’t over imply shader use. Or rape fps.
Everyone I've spoken to, including myself, hates chain. The resource nodes never seem to give the right output and people nine-mine onto the middle.
Then you can't have spoken to many people. Chain is an incredible map, really well balanced, fantastic gameplay, and does everything right. It's pretty complex which may be to the detriment of poorer players like yourself, but the vast majority of good players love it. Maybe you've just been speaing to the kind of players who hate every custom map. Because nearly everyone I've spoken to loves Chain, and I agree with them. It really does bring out the best in Empires if you have 2 teams who know how to play it.
I bet people would play alot more maps if the devs would have just include them into the installer. Edit: Alot of the maps that dont work with pubs would work very well with 2 decent teams that communicate and know how to play.
There is no installer now. We do plan to add more maps in once we fix some issues with custom content and lost coast materials not working, but what you said in the edit is pretty much spot on. A lot of maps are fantastic but require 2 good teams to really get the most out of them. Moreso than other maps anyway.
Exactly. People never spread out on the map, which means that one team always owns most of the map. And don't get me started on the nine-mine to the airstrip. Every time moojuice and a significant number of his consortium wannabes are on they stack BE and nine-mine up to that airstrip, so we always spend 30+ minutes artying and mortaring them to finish them off. You can say the same thing about King. Given enough players it's an amazing and fun map to play on. It really exercises commanders' ability to manage huge areas of land and helps squads learn the value of teamwork without relying on the rest of the team to help you.
