I lag with the effects, but i'm trying to believe it's the server because I have a relatively decent graphics card and hardware. Someone needs to pimp BSID's server so we can see the true glory of the effects, but I think when I made my own server it still kinda lagged. Are you going to have to buff the default heapsize to fix it or...?

afaik particles should put 0 strain on server as they are only rendered clientside.

clearly I'm not the only one experiencing frame lag with these affects. keep in mind that i normally run empires at 1650x1080 on max everything with 16xAA and an average of 100fps. only these particles are causing problems. At this point I've heard at least half a dozen other people who are having problems.

Did you do what I told you to in mantis?
Drop your AA down to 4x or 8x and see if it's the AA causing it. I'm trying to fix the problem and you're about as helpful as a crash to desktop.

It was manageable before. Why should I have to lower my settings because of a few new effects?

Because they make the game more intensive.

It's like asking why counterstrike source needs higher specs than 1.6.

Some of the new effects are more expensive than the old ones.

If you're not willing to even try lower AA, I'm not willing to help you further.

It matters a lot whether it is 16x MSAA or 16x CSAA. The latter is much less expensive.

My computer is 5 years old (Geforce 7600GT, Athlon 4000+, 2GB ram) and I have the game settings on max with 16xAF and no Anti-aliasing.

I don't really have any problems with beside the lag when really close up to things like the HE arty and nuke explosions.
(I mean when I'm like three meters away from it by which time I would prob be dead anyway unless I am in spec.)

The new (rev 117) nuke effect seems to be much less taxing than the old one. We were having a nuke fest on money and there didn't seem to be any fps drop. Also, they're puuurdy.

I lowered particle count by about 100 particles, but it wasn't a huge change. If it is fixing issues I'm surprised, it was just a little tidying up is all.
