Why the hell would you have a nuclear powered car?

Vanadium Redox Batteries are way more sensible and cooler. It's about as close as you're likely to get to having a car powered by liquid lightning.

Ohh hey, I like those. Thats kinda cool, too bad about the low energy density tho. It does scale up really great tho.

edit: ohh, one of the reference links shows that they greatly improved the system in 2009 to lithium energy density.

    http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2009/10/091012135506.htm

This might actually be great for cars if it really does reach lithium levels. Instead of a gas tank you have two tanks that store the electrolyte. Come home plug it in and your good to go OR if you need to "fill up" at a station they just rapid pump it out and put in fully charged electrolytes and your off in about 5-10 mins.

    edit2:
here is a major downside. What if they do implement electrolyte replacement stations. Your bound to get assholes who intentionally try to sabotage the system by putting shit in the electrolytes and then going to get it replaced. The next person who goes there might get some of that shit in there tank.

The present form (with sulfuric acid electrolytes) was patented by the University of New South Wales in Australia in 1986

    I ought to slap you...
The dattebayo is an idiosynchratic speech pattern for that character. The "Believe it!" dub is solely to prevent that his mouth moves while there is no sound, and to make him sound like a bloody bellend.
Edit: To show ya that it is complete nonsense:

You can spike petrol as well, the point is people don't. As for putting shit in your car and driving it to the fuel station, you're going to fuck your own car up if it's actually dangerous to have in the tank.

The point of suggesting the system is that it is basically the same as the current fuel system, except you can recharge the spent fuel, and it's compatible with any energy source, so the net result is that you convert any energy source into electro-petrol for your car.

The idea is quite robust, if you mix the spent and charged fuel it just messes the charge up a bit, it doesn't break the battery, and as it isn't in contact with any moving parts, putting cleaning solvent in it or something won't break the engine, it just means you need to sterilise the tank and refill it, or at worst replace the tank, the engine is unharmed and fuel tanks aren't exactly hard to make.

Actually with a perfect conductor that would store any energy you put into it indefinitely.

With no resistance, perhaps...but that isn't infinite power, that's just an inifinite loop :)

I choose to interpret the phrase 'infinite power' as meaning 'power which lasts for ever' so that I can make the comment.

Which it would, it just wouldn't do anything. Inexact phrasing is fun.

    No I'm not.

Although if portals obeyed the laws of physics they would always cost more energy to maintain than the 'free' energy they could generate with gravity.

In that diagram the portal is counteracting gravity so it should be expending energy to elevate the water, more than could be gained by the inefficient water wheel.

The problem is that you can travel a huge distance instantly, physics doesn't like instantly. You'd require an infinite velocity to travel to another point instantly (even if it was nearby) and that means you'd need infinite energy because E = 0.5mv^2, IE E = 0.5m(infinity)^2 which simplifies to infinity, basically disproving any hope you may have had that teleportation is possible.

But didn't some researchers recently manage to successfully teleport a couple of protons?

Sure, they're just protons, but the fact remains that it was possible.

On a quantum level a lot of things are possible, because quantum is where shit gets fucked up.
