What about the option of making comm targets a bit less accurate? Having them fade in and out like sensor targets, say? Maybe have it reveal where the target was five seconds ago (or some other period of time), if that's possible?

That would avoid the annoyance of having someone know your exact location precisely enough to shoot you when you're too far away for them to clearly see (or through fog, or whatever), but would still give the comm a way to say "go over here, there's someone in this general area. Kill them."

And it would be more exact than anyone could convey over voice or text. One of the problems people have with comm targets, I think, is that they are so precise that you can shoot people with them that you would've probably had no real chance of hitting without them... and, in effect, they utterly negate defensive advantages that ought to still count at least a little.

Well, they were fading in and out for one version, but I think people didn't like them...which is a shame, but understandable.

What i'd personally like is targets to be drawn on the hud as an arrow indicating direction*, hell, you could even put a metre distance or something on there and it'd be SO MUCH BETTER than drawing a box over the actual infantryman. It could be drawn on the minimap too.

*Similar to how Oblivion marks waypoints on the compass, actually. If you put a little arrow on a bar at the bottom which gets darker the closer you get, that'd be pretty awesome.

agreed on "don't remove com targets"

Com targets is essential towards the rts side of the game, other wise it wouldn't be strategic. The com may see something from overhead and tells you to attack a hidden braks, that will decide the game.

Don't know how often you have played as commander. But giving targets is mostly not strategic.
For strategy you don't need exact moving targets. Stationary targets would be enough.

Automatic ban function for people who idle around in Spectator, and/or take up bandwidth by DJ:ing.

If people get turret and turrent confused just add this as a bind

Turret: Something revolving horizontally, within which guns are mounted, as on a fortification. Turrent: Not a word! THERES A DIFFERENCE.

TBH i think changing drastically or removing comm targets will make empires into another "shoot everything that moves, if it doesn't die it's on your team" kind of game.
