We boosted mortar reload speed. I don't know if it's changeable midgame but, let's be honest, we're all just speculating anyway. And I think out of the 2 ideas I had, the reloading one is certainly the weaker one, I'm sure there are better ideas. And yeah, my idea for the RPG would simple be to right click to turn homing on or off.
Gren: RPGs do more damage to tanks, and for every 10 points after the 40 rank they get a small percentage increase in the damage. Rifleman: Armor protects better against bullets, and for every 10 points after the 40 rank they get a small percentage increase in the resistance.
Homing RPGs would be terrible. You can't direct your rocket at a moving tank to secure a hit, you have to lead your shot.
Passive bonuses are shit. "Oh I take 5% less damage". It doesn't work into strategy, and whatever we added, should.
Passive bonuses are not fun, at least thats what most game designers agree on. It only makes the player better at something he can do anyway, means no motivation or exitement about it.
I agree that passive bonuses are pretty meh. However, Empires has a horrendous track record of teaching new players. The game has conflicting gameplay mechanics that yield unintuitive strategies among other things. To tack on yet another mechanic is just silly. Yes, it's not fair that engies and scouts get a rank 40 bonus, but the concept of a rank 40 bonus is terrible in and of itself. If anything, rank 40 bonuses should be removed entirely.
3 wouldn't be an issue really, except on infantry maps. It's nothing your commander/teammates can't do.
I was being sarcastic. Just because something is fun (for one player) doesn't mean it's a good idea. As a whole, rank 40 bonuses are a bad idea.
Changing the reload speed and then compiling the model isn't that hard, but I don't know if you could change the reload speed during the game like you said. Maybe change the rifleman weapon model with the normal reload speed to the weapon model with the faster reload speed when the rifleman gets 40 points. One of the issues I've had is that it doesn't seem to work on every model. It worked on mortar (and NFHR, which I should commit at some point, given that it's been sat on my PC for over a year), but no matter how many different ways I did it, I could never manage to speed up the NF Shotgun Pistol reload time.
thats what i meant, why is there a variable you can set in scripts, if it doesnt alter reload spead? if its unwanted you should be able to pull it from the animation aswell and the variable is redundant ... unless ofc this is some source oddity, then i "understand"
