currently, passenger's views move related to the turret of the tank, and considering that mouse movement can be quite jerky, especially when you have no control over what you're looking at or when you're going to move again, this is really hard to live with. What I suggest is that the player is tied to the body of the vehicle. as the vehicle turns left, the player with gently rotate with it. this will make it much more fun and possibly to be a useful passenger.
So... say, have one machine gun on the body controllable by the driver, and the turret be passenger operated, so there has to be *gasp* teamwork to drive a tank!?
I'd like multiple person tank commandeering personally. It's still not realistic, as far as I know tanks need 3 to 5 people.
i like this idea(sandbags) cause it will make it easier to shoot and acutally hit things as a passanger
It would probably be a good idea once there's actual guns on there to make it independent of the main turret.
Movement relative to the turret certainly does encourage communication between the driver and the passenger. IMO it also makes working from one of those turrets nicely hectic, which adds a lot to the atmosphere.
Well, just to make sure, we're talking about the guy on top sticking out. Right now it's a pain in the butt to do anything at all as the driver swings the turret around pretty much all the time. It's not really atmospheric as it is annoying since you can't properly aim and making it actually worthwhile to just get out and shoot em on the ground. Odds are pretty good you're gonna eat lead when you keep sitting and wait for a moment where the turret doesn't move ( e.g never). Riding shotgun on top of the turret is just like good 'ole bf42 where you'd draw fire 99% of the time but without the mg.
it probably "could" be atmospheric, but in a normal game, where the tank pilot is just some completely random joe, it's really irritating. and when your life is a contest between how accurately you can fire and and the guy crouched a couple of meters away, it really doesn't help you when your crosshair suddenly jumps three inches to the left.
Driver, commander, gunner....then machine gunners for the .50 cal MGs...the M1A3 Abrams uses remote controlled MGs. The Challenger II is more primitive MG wise, as they use a 7.62 MG that is manually operated....not sure what the Leopard II is like.
I don't see how it promotes teamwork when it's something you have to do instanteously. Maybe if you had a voicecomm you could be talking constantly about how youre going to turn left or right in a second, but that would be hideously annoying. I like the original idea.
MEGA BUMP! this needs recognition. it's so damn important. aka: without it this is a shabby (unpolished) area of the mod.
I don't even have to read the last page of posts; I agree 100% with this idea. The only way I can be at ALL effective in the gunner position when in an anti-infantry role is if I get the HMG and spray and pray. Grenadier rockets, those are a BIT easier. but it's still annoying. As for realism, it's not that realistic to have plasma cannons or nuke missiles, either; I don't see a problem with just one man operating the tank. (Slith)
I think you should rotate with the tank base, not the turret. Sorry for the shit quality of my replies recently, I've just been KO'd by a yellow fever jab.
