    Its indirect.

The carp can survive on ground when it rains. O:

No seriously, look at this goat fight:
The dwarf fighting it is dehydrated, starving and very tired, he'll probably die without sustaining any injuries from the fight.
I've tried dispatching additional units, but they just stand and watch the fight.

Boatmurdered is extremely hilarious, best reason for why a lava doomsday machine is the most important thing a fortress can have, if elephants are in the area that is. One bad thing about it is the fact that its 60 some pages long.

to avoid spam in this thread ill give a link.

    http://df.magmawiki.com/index.php/DF2010:Military/Guide

but erm... i wont play this version of DF... ill wait for a update
there is unbalanced monsters, f.ex. undeads and colossuses are unkillable except by magma... and a lot of people have had their one year long fights with goats and other random monsters...
workers and soldiers do their duty to the point where they almost collapse (which create a lot of unhappiness... doesnt need much to make a mass tantarum to kill the fort)
and you can get migrants which are just way too skilled which reduce the fun...
(this is a migrant arriving at the very first summer)

Lol Zeke, the more i read about DF the less i unterstand it, but it seems to be in that corner between weird and interesting.

Why would a dwarf with an axe be afraid of a carp?

carps tend to nibble the dwarf, but if a dwarf is being nibbled, he cannot swim

    hence he drowns

together with the fact that somehow carps can fight with dwarfs

Carps were/are somehow bugged which resulted in them being incredibly overpowered. Hence we all fear carps.

toady said somewhere that when a dwarven punch does 1-2 dmg (old system) a carp does up to a whooping 6
back then most creatures had 15 hps (os sth like that)

    How Dwarves Fish:

Fishing requires no equipment, as Fisherdwarves have developed a highly superior fishing method. When tasked, the dwarf will go out to a body of water he has picked and wade in knee deep. The dwarf then simply lowers his prestigious beard into the water and waits. Inevitably a fish will arrive, attracted by the remains of the dwarf's last meal still lodged in his beard. When the fish makes the fatal error of attempting to acquire this morsel, it is hopelessly entangled.(In some kobold societies they fish exclusively with nets made from dwarf beard hair.) The only flaw in this method is that devilish carp have learned to drag dwarves into rivers by their beard. In some instances, when the carp rips out a significant portion of the Fisherdwarf's beard, he will simply allow himself to drown. Most dwarves see this as more honorable than returning home in horrible beardless shame.

These terrible beasts challenge the mighty elephants for the post of King of Beasts. Their insidious nature and vicious strength provide them with the means to drag a fully grown dwarf into the aquatic depths, whereupon they proceed to gnaw at the struggling victim. And this is not all, for the awful carp can stare at the well-meaning fisherdwarf who for fear at these awful descendants of the Old Ones, are sent staggering back, too often straight off a cliff. To make things worse, they will taunt the hunters, who in hopes of achieving eternal glory, will unload whole quivers towards them, oblivious to nearby animals walking on land. Not all hope is lost, for the carp bears an Achilles heel, and will however die after the first winter if one is lucky enough to have a map which freezes. Otherwise, one may try draining all the rivers and lakes to air-drown these water-fiends (but be wary not to water-drown your dwarves in the process).

However... there has been a single survivor to this fearsome beast... Urist McHalfBeard the legendary Hammerdwarf.

While he did survive the battle with the beast, he lost half his pride and from that day onward he wore a steel helmet to hide his face untill the day he died.
