If the smoke is black, how do you see through it?

    Infa-red vision (spelling?)

Enemies would have to be seen differently to Allies, due to FF issues

Also smoke grenades could be replaced with this sort of technology, to block corridors. and on a final note, COULD PLEASE someone make a large cs_office type map?

    To reply to a few posters;

You can already spam smoke grenades if you have an ammo crate near you. Doesn't lag for me, though.

And the gas doesn't need to be visible at all btw.

Still don't like it, I think it is unessessary, not a good direction and a lag issue.

I don't lag in smoke at all in source games. I still like this idea and I think it would add more intensity to battles.

I think it would take away from the current gameplay, by making the game even more complex. Because you have to plan for even more defenses and offenses, you have to slow down and make sure that you are prepared for a gas offensive. eg. the game would get bogged down by such a big change. I think adding gas is an extravagence and doesn't really fit into the gameplay. Gas was useful in WWI because everyone was stuck in a trench and there wasn't much movement. This game if far more fast paced than that. I don't think it will add to the gameplay, I still don't like the war crimes aspect, and I don't like how some machines will lag as a result.

maybe yust REPLACE the smoke grenade by gass!

nobody uses smoke cous they dont do wat they are supposed to do (fool turrets and players, turrets dont bother smoke and look troug it and for players the smokefield is to small so you cant really hide in the cloud (ppl woud see your feet, head, teammates, yust fire random on it and hit you etc...) )

So, you are offended by the use of gas because you consider its usage a war crime, but nukes and dying of radiation are perfectly acceptable? That is quite the double standard.

Besides, it wouldn't actually slow down the gameplay. All one must do is go to the armoury (does going there slow the offensives down right now?) and then equip the gasmask.

And as for the major lag that people encounter when smoke hits the field: I have yet to encounter such lag (I have a Geforce 420 MX).
Or optionally, have a less intensive gas cloud. Toxic gas doesn't HAVE to totally obscure the battlefield. Perhaps make the gas slightly transparent?

yesh talk of war crimes in a war based computer games is pretty much irrelevant.

Especially when nukes are already available.

PS. Oh, and biological weapons too (Bio MG anyone?).

Hmm, perhaps water could shelter you from gas, too. Though, there's not much water in the maps atm.

Right now vehicles (especially arty from range) trump totally infantry. Giving arty yet another way to annihilate huge groups of inf will make the game less balanced along two dimensions: inf will be even more greatly nerfed; arty will be even more powerful.

So at the moment, I would say gas is redundant with HE shells and therefore should not be included. In the future, if arty does less damage vs. inf and vehicles, then gas could be included as an alternative weapon to target inf.

It'd just add another way to attack the enemy. It wouldn't double the artillery's power or anything. And as I said, it's really other people that do the killing, since I don't think the gas should directly kill anybody - just disturb.

or fired it from small capsules
