The forums have been switched, hence I'm posting this idea, again, for the third time. There would be gas-shells available for research, though behind a long, expensive research tree. Artillery could use the gas-shells. Firerate and ammo storing would be quite limited, but the gas would spread in a quite large area. The gas cloud should also last for 20-30 seconds. Gas should only affect infantry, including jeep drivers/passengers. I have several ideas possible effects: - blinding; seeing a black screen (about 30sec) - anesthetic; stamina/walking speed decrease and inaccurate shooting (45sec) - drugging; players would see fake grenades, machinegun tracers, enemy infantry and enemy tanks, as well as see and hear fake explosions (60sec) To prevent his infantry from suffering from gas-attacks, the commander could research gas-masks. If and when the gas-mask research was completed, infantry would from then on respawn with the gas-mask as a weapon in the weapons HUD menu, like the scout's binoculars. Players, who respawned before the research was completed, could equip themselves with the gas-mask by visiting the barracks or the armory. Gas-masks would work so, that you would select the gas-mask weapon from the weapons HUD menu and press fire. You would then put the gasmask on your face, but it would take a few seconds. You could then select other guns, and when you wanted to take off the gas-mask, you would just select the gas-mask weapon, and press fire again. While having the gas-mask on, your view would be a little bit limited, your stamina would be slightly weaker, and you would hear a constant breathing sound. How would gas-masks contribute positively in the gameplay? For example, if you had an everlasting turret-farm battle in, say, emp_crossroads, shooing the turret-repairing enemy engineers away with gas would be very effective. It would also encourage teamwork, as you could plan a coordinated artillery attack to disseminate a bunch of enemy infantry, then have gas-mask-equipped riflemen take them out.
Agreed, there should be some variant of a long-lasting, slow-damaging gas. For example: Mustard Gas might do 2 points of damage a second for 60 seconds. Having a gasmask will reduce the damage to half. Or 1 point of damage a second for 60 seconds. I like the other gasses aswell. EDIT: ^ Gas will only effect those in jeeps, as those are not sealed against an atmosphere.
I didn't say all vehicles. Only jeeps, because they're so open. It would be so illogical to be safe from gas by entering a jeep...
I don't think we should be advocating war crimes here, I think large area smoke grenades would work fine, though for different reasons then specified here.
if this is allowed it should only be allowed for artillery and they should be able to carry like 3 shells max, if they have the same amount of shells as always the entire map could be fumegated in minutes, especially if they were gas grenades carried by infantry
Wow, sorry if I sound harsh, or if I failed to notice possible sarcasm in your post, but who cares? You could as well say: "you shouldn't be advocating war, killing, and imperialism, so please throw this mod project to the bin". Not only is this a game, but it is also set in an entirely different universe, on a planet, on which enough wars haven't been fought for nations to have peacy treaties, weapon bans etc. Also, it seems like the planet only has the two nations which are in war with each other, so who would there be to punish anyone for using gas?
emp_recruit :D I'd halve or one-third the size of the normal arty for gas, though. Or just halve it for smoke and one-third it for gas.
I say no because of the war crimes thing, but hey, maybe I'm overreacting. ALSO: And this is a legitimate gameplay issue: would excess smoke slow down gameplay via framerate or lag? Cause if it did that, I say BIG no. Also, can this ability be exploited/griefed by a lone asshole? Some mechanism to prevent this must be created.
I'm gonna suggest the ability to only carry one smoke projectile per artillery. As for lamers who would shoot this in to their own base, hmmmmmm, if you try to shoot it at home base, the gas can is prematurely detonated within the cannon, thusly causing the tank's cockpit to fill with the gas Just enough to kill you, so someone else can have the tank. For a real idea though, it could possibly be made so that the gas fired from a friendly unit doesn't affect teammate, except for decrease in vision.
maybe even make it so that even if you are in a shielded tank or wear gasmasks that the gas still effects your vision somehow, very minor tho, just so it still adds a little bit, even to your own team, that way itll be imo more fun to go trough it and kill eveyone off
I think before anyone goes around implementing poison gas, one should consider regular smoke gas and see how the gameplay goes with that. If it's as thick as a smoke grenade, and as wide a radius as artillery, it will QUICKLY make escort UNPLAYABLE. Imagine: one arty with a gas launcher, on top of some ammo, and another with a HE cannon? NF would be staggering around wandering into explosions so fast it'd make your head spin.
No more dangerous than two arty with HE shells. Beside, one could just give NF gasmasks, its up to them if they use it.....
