And you're blaming AMD for a faulty DVI port? I'm pretty sure all they supply is the chips. The OEMs take care of the rest. So REALLY you should be blaming whichever producer you got your card from (MSI, Sapphire, etc).
At the lower end of the market, price will matter a lot more than thermal protection on your low end dual core cpu.
I don't even think you can buy a new non-SSD HD with 300 GB, and even if you do it won't cost that much less than a 1TB one, all HDs get to a price where it usually never goes lower if its new.
Better than coming to this forum with questions about what to buy, and create a flame war instead. (Noticed that? Every time someone asks something about hardware, all we get is a flame war. I mean, I pick up a lot of vital info here, but still, fuck sake!) The lowest priced HD I found was a 500GB (There was a 160 one, too, but that'd be too small)
Just get a 1Tb for $70. Also, Leet, like I said you're better off waiting. Fudzilla (a news site with a sketchy source) says new cards are coming out in two weeks' time. AMD has great 6-core CPUs for multitasking as well as playing games. With AMD you don't need to shell out more cash for triple-channel RAM as well. i5's are great too, but AMD has them beat concerning threaded applications, and tie with them gaming-wise.
I blame them for shitty/poorly designed cards. Their quality control is total shit. The 4870X2 was the same. And again (fuck, I'm turning blue in the face) this is a REFERENCE board. In other words, ATI/AMD made it.
I can agree that the 4870x2 sucked dick. I had one and got a refund on it, it was so shitty. Constant crashes, CCC taking over my shit. Got a 285GTX and haven't regretted it.
Reference cards don't mean ati makes it. It means the card manufactorer makes the card according to the reference design ati provides Quality control is dependant on the card manufactorer
My face is turning purple now. It is manufactured/Branded by AMD. I know you love AMD/ATI, but this piece of hardware blows. Anything multiGPU right now also blows; until we have a shared buffer, it's all pointless.
I have no unreasonable brand loyalties If its made and manufactored by ati, its not just a reference card, its a commercial sample.
muffin why do u want a 700watts powersupply? I use a 425watts supply on my C2Quad 9550 OC, with a gtx260 8gig RAM and 4 HDDs. And its stable. U waste a ot of energy when u choose PSUs, that never come any close to their max output.
According to TomsHardware the i5 uses 186 watts idle and 554 watts max. That is with the video cards power draw from a Radeion hd 4870 with a range of 131-251. Subtracting that out of the total power gives us 55-303. According to the link he provided for the video card he wants, the card uses another 188 max and 27 idle. For a total range of watts. 82-491 a 600W PS should be fine for him however its not very future proof.
Still don't understand what's with the i5. A 6-core highly OC-able CPU for $200 made by the same company that is releasing new graphics cards soon sounds like a good deal.
And I hate AMD. Well...actually...I kinda ended up liking AMD because of the Fusion Utility. Really helped the performance. Same thing with nVidia, nHancer. I loved that program.
blah. Find me a good AMD quad-core and a decent motherboard, and I'll think about it. *EDIT* Found AMD Phenom II X4 955 for about 300nok (Should be around 20-30 bucks, use a currency converter) cheaper compared to the i5 I found. Going to look for some reviews and such, maybe I'll go for it. *EDIT...again* Phenom II X6 1055T, good / bad? turd edet This one or this one. Currency converter for the masses. (Norwegian Krone to "your currency")
Do not get the green series. You're getting triple-channel RAM for a dual-channel mobo. Also, the motherboard is a little overkill for what you're doing, unless you plan on crossfire. With the saved costs of the RAM and a not-as-overkill motherboard, grab an HD5850.
