Because airplanes get implemented on standart sized maps we need flying vehicles that are not superfast and behave more like helicopters. Big planes would not work with standart maps and especially a dropship the size of 4 tanks would be just too big to be usefull. Another problem is that no one needs a airplane that carrys one tank somewhere on a normal sized map. This here is a LOW POLY model of a Brenodi flying APC. It flys with 4 thrusters and can transport infantry like a normal APC. I dont think its to high tech and it has to be different to NF's aircrafts that would work with fans. 1545 polys 2986 tris
I like it. People are going to not like the very un-orthodox look, but I think it could be really neat.
the thrusters are a bit weird, like princess leia's buns in starwars i like the little BE soldier you added for comparison
As I said in IRC: Look's fucking hideous. Doesn't fit the theme of either side. Doesn't look practical, or like it could fly. DO MY V-22 DESIGN GODDAMMIT.
Looks interesting and I think it could really fit the brenodi theme. Its hard to tell without the textures. Maybe those two air intake ports(?) could be made into one, or changed around a bit, because those are the only things that look strange and out of place IMO Also I really like the look of the jets on the BE transport prop, they seem like they would fit onto that model somehow.
The issue is... well, it looks futuristic yes, but I tend to base all of my knowledge of aircraft design on the Brenodi side from the transport. If you notice, it uses fission engines that are small, compact, and efficent, leaving room for other things. What you have is the exact opposite. You have large thrusters, that take up most of the vehicle and leave the inside very small, and compact.
I replaced the side doors, the geometry was a bit fucked up their. The whole model is alot smaller now. Those side doors are a little bit bigger than a soldier.
besides the thrusters them selves could be small but the shielding to protect them could be extensive making them look big because this will be going into hot situations with lots of fire if a thruster blows you are screwed
thought flying apc to be a bus on thrusters for some reason <.< The design looks weird, dont' know how to explain but when ever i think of cargo plane or "apc" i think of the firefly from "firefly" and "serenity"
Without criticising the style, the overall design is ugly as hell. It looks like one of the really horrible looking X3 ships. It also doesn't look like an aircraft, it looks like it should be walking around on those things on the side, it doesn't look aerodynamic and those things (engines?) don't look capable of propulsion.
You mean "I personaly dont like it"... It isnt a plane. Thrusters work like this: Hole -> Fire comes out.
It doesn't have to be good looking, it mainly has to look different and be practical, and if it does those things then it should be ok.
When anybody tells you anything it is their opinion, even if they tell you it's a fact you only know that it's their opinion that it's a fact. I also didn't say plane, I said aircraft, and it doesn't look like an aircraft, it looks like a robotic gorilla with a gun on the front. I realise you probably intended to have fire coming out of the engines but where does the fire come from? Where's the jet intake to get air for the fire? Where's the turbine going to go? The hole is tiny, you couldn't get any sort of jet engine in there. It doesn't look as though it would get off the ground, or be anything like stable if it did, the thrust comes from the bottom so it's just going to fall over whenever it tries to steer. Thrust in helicopters and zeppelins and hot air balloons and any sort of hovrering aircraft comes from the top and the body hangs underneath, the centre of gravity needs to be below the thrust. It doesn't need to be designed by an aerospace engineer, but it does need to look at least something like an aircraft and one that would fly, and it also needs to look good, which it doesn't.
It's those 4 side things that put me off aswell. Stop trying to be deliberately unorthodox. Add some wings further back, maybe some small ones at the front, with jets on the end or under each one, and it might work. It's just at the moment, it looks hideous and completely impractical for flight. I think Jekotia said it looks like some crab monster or something, which I can see the resemblance with.
If we're just going with 'bad ass' as the only criterion I would prefer to have a viking longship with jet engines stuck to the side and a ramming spike for killing other aircraft. It is also full of viking warriors supping mead and singing drinking songs, they all have axes and there are semi-naked nordic women dancing on a trestle table in the middle. It generates its own gravity so this occurs regardless of the position of the air-longship.
