I'm surprised everyone is reacting to me like I'm a weirdo, we're throwing stupid pot heads into the slammer and killing babies because the general populace are too immature to think of a moderate solution to problems.

I've meditated long and hard about when life starts and at what time someone should be considered unique life. It may be different from your philosophy. If you do not impede a Zygote, it will become a human; if you do not impede skincells, they eventually die to their preprogrammed death.

Fetus are both human AND alive.

A woman should have that choice, doesn't mean it's good. There are a lot of things people are allowed to do that are not good.

Exactly, it would work much better to educate people on birth control, condoms, and using their brain, then having abortion clinics as fail-safes rather than as contraceptives. To fund this is easy, just end the war on drugs and stop funding military juntas in south america.

How is a fetus alive? And when does it become a fetus and when does it become a child? Because its not because it has a beating heart and functional organs that it is alive. Someone with his brain removed can be " alive" by that logic. Also if you do not impede a fetus it will also eventually die as a human because of programmed death.

It's not that much about if a fetus is alive or not, its more about when do we as a species recognise that something has become a living sentient being. No way something under 16 weeks is alive. It starts as 20 according to most scientists.

Murder imlies ending a life, a bunch of cells clumped together isn't a life without it being sentient.

Lets hypothetically say a fetus is grown in a woman, it has a cranial tube defect which result it having less than 50 percent of a brain. Is it alive when its born? Is it murder when you abort?

 

I know opposition to abortion is supported by religious people, but I do not oppose abortion over religious reasons.

Humans die well after many years though, and probably with good evolutionary reason - enough time to live to birth and raise children, but not long enough for overpopulation - so something like 30-40 years? If you don't get dental coverage your teeth will fall out by the same time so it makes sense.

But isn't this the issue, if at 20 weeks it's sentient, is it ok to abort it a day earlier? The fetus just has one day to go to become a sentient being. Or any time before that, as 20 weeks is insignificant compared to the 80 or 90 years that people live to. If the second a fetus becomes sentient it is wrong to abort, then it's absurd that the second before it was right. I'm just glad I will never have to make such a decision.

I believe ethics is a term missing from this discussion. It may be more ethical to kill it at that point rather than let it live. Ethics is more or less a spectrum, there is most likely a point where abortion is significantly more ethical than life, but I'm not one to judge.
