It's that time of the decade again folks! Republicans colliding with Republicans and Democrats colliding with Democrats to decide who will lead their part in the election next year, and things are really heating up! Jeb Bush, widely considered to be one of the frontrunners of the nomination, has officially announced his candidacy after nearly two years of anticipation! But not only him, we have a power-pack group of candidates, from the Tea-party darling Ted Cruz to the moderate ex-governor George Pataki! And just like in 2012, there's even a black guy and a woman; Doctor Ben Carson and Carly Fiorina. We even have some old-timers coming back into the show for another round at it; Rick Perry, Mike Huckabee and Rick Santorum are all official candidates for this run! Longtime Congressman and Senator Lindsey Graham has his hat in the ring, along with Marco Rubio. And who can forget the authentic Libertarian fellow, Rand Paul? But that's just the start! Bobby Jindal, Donald Trump, Chris Christie, John Kasich and Scott Walker have all shown an interest in pursuing the nomination, rounding out the possible candidates to an amazing 16 contenders! With most debates limited to ten people, no clear frontrunners and a lot of overlap in those candidates, I'm not one to envy the organizers for the events! On the Democrats side, things are a good bit cooler. Hilary Clinton is a clear front-runner, pulling a majority in every poll to date for the nomination, returning from the last election and having previously served as Secretary of State under Obama's first term, Senator from New York and First Lady as husband of the beloved Bill Clinton. There're also Lincoln Chafee and Martin O'Malley, both previous governors of Rhode Island and Maryland respectively. They're down in the polls, only pulling single digits. But I haven't even mentioned the best candidate, oh far from it. Hilary may be progressive, but she isn't progressive enough and she has too much baggage on here, what with the e-mails and Benghazi. No, there's only one REAL progressive in the race and that's (drumroll...) ☆BERNIE SANDERS☆ MOTHERFUCKERS! Now I know what you're thinking: "Candles, who the fuck is Bernie Sanders and why should I give a shit about a septuagenarian from Vermont of all places?" Well I'll tell you why, in a handy-dandy list of what he believes in: Sensible gun control. That doesn't mean banning guns, that means background checks, psych testing and safety training, all of which are sensible approaches to a real problem. That mandatory drug sentences only serves to put marginalized people into prison, ruining their chances at improving their lives and forcing them into a revolving door of hell. That people deserve a real living wage that would let them live without fear of going hungry or not making rent. That healthcare is a human right and that healthcare should be provided to all men and women in the country and paid for by a single-payer system. That the military has too much money spent on it while domestic policies are underfunded. That student debt is overwhelming citizens at a time when demand for skilled workers is at the highest it's ever been and that all people have a right to a free college education. That no content provider should be discriminated against by ISPs simply because they pay the same as everyone else. That if a bank is too big to fail, then it's too big to exist. Did I mention he has an authentic Brooklyn accent? I know you want to see the President of the United States release some BROOKLYN RAGE on some assholes! There are only three emotions this man feels: Happiness for himself and others, Pride for his country and PURE UNBRIDLED PASSION for what he believes in! Out of everyone who's in the race this election, there's only one person who will stick to his guns and never promise what he doesn't believe it, and that man is Bernie Sanders. For those of you who are interested in who you'd vote with, there's a handy-dandy website that shows who you'd agree most with policy-wise. Even Euros can take the quiz! Who would Empires vote for? I'm curious to see the results. Here's mine to start with.
