List of small unintuitive things in Empires that aren't obvious to a new player

    That’s the first time I’ve seen new players with that question, though.
    For my whole (almost) decade spent in Empires.
    So I wouldn’t say that is a high priority issue, compared with everything else in this thread.

    This. I understand having engines being different is a good idea but they way coolant and fission is right now is over the top. Just change it a little bit.
    Trickster you seem to think we are all suggesting that you remove the features of adv coolant and fission but we are just asking you to tweak it a little.
    Read through that linked thread properly because no one suggests removing it just to tweak it slightly.
    Quite a lot of people agree with me and wealthysoup on this so please consider it.

    More back on topic,
    • If a player is trying to revive someone and they don't have enough engi tool charge, then have it show in the ammo counter how much more charge they need to revive.
    • How to build and upgrade turrets.
    • Can change class at a Rax/Armoury/Flag.
    • How to use the vehicle factory (When a player is standing in the VF have a bit of text that says press 'V' to build a vehicle or something like that).

    The main reason Coolant doesn't cool at all while moving is to try and show the player that they should stop moving. It's not a balance thing, it's just a way of visually representing the point of the engine. I honestly don't like it the way it is, but I can't think of another way to explain how to use the engine.

    Make the exhaust turn to ice when not moving.
    Just like it would be neat if Bio was green.
    Electric had sparks.

    Well I guess one of the things for the GUI update will be to have a way of showing information like this to the player, then we can tweak the engine scripts a little. It would probably mean a bit of coding work to implement too.
    The EPIC server MOTD should really be a proper page with a link to epic's forums on it.
    (EPIC forum looks soooo good compared to the old phpbb3 one, it's a shame no one really uses it..) :headshot:
    But I got so much stuff to do as it is, it's way at the bottom of the list in terms of priority.

    Now there's blood coming out when firing at friendly units.
    This might be why I saw a newb firing at his teammate today.

    No, he's proper right. Something's changed, and I'm pretty sure it's the blood. If it isn't I would really like to know, 'cos I'm sure as heck it's different.

    How do I build a vehicle
    How do I spawn
    How do I revive
    These 3 questions get asked a lot by new players in VIPER

    I still cant understand why "how do i spawn" is such a prevalent question after candles added all the extra info.

    Maybe disabling the squad popup at the start (again) would help a bit?

    wasnt it supposed to autoselect the first spawnpoint at a time?

    maybe if you still mean to show squad window you might want to show it after spawn selection.

    Need more ”active” info.
    Have instructions popped up when people join a team.
    Just look at the tutorial of games out there.

    "to walk forward press w" ... "good"
    "too walk backwards press s" ... "good, you starting to get the hang of it"
    "to turn your view use the mouse. try looking around now." ... "awesome, looking around is very important to ..."

    just dont overdo it ;)

    tbh i would find it more important that have all the un- and badly documented features described somewhere easily accessible, then a tutorial which teaches you how to breath. people who play this games for years but havnt been able to figure out at what point you get your 2nd turret is just bad. and spartcus doesnt appear the average tard who cant be arsed to read shit, its just well hidden among outdated info on the wiki.

    I feel like the big problem is the languge barrier. I'm under the impression that a lot of newbies are really young and don't speak English well enough to make out much of anything the game or players say to them.

    If they are young enough not to know basic common sense or basic english, I dont think empires has much to offer to them anyway.

    Games nowadays are still implementing this kind of "teaching you how to breathe"-level tutorial.
    I think it should be good.

    Being a regular player/vet doesn't mean you know how to breathe. :cool:
