    People seem to forget that we didn't have a particle artist before Empty, so all the particles from 2.2 -> 2.24 were the old ep1 system of shit. Now we are actually using the particles.

    Fricken Empty, don't you know particles are for kids?

    In all honesty just lower the amount of dirt particles that kick up, make the mortar smoke more hollow/transparent, DEVELOPERS nerf the AoE of the nuke, and BAM! Instant win.

    Well 'not in view' is not the same as 'I can't see it'.

    As far as I know the game still needs to track anything that can affect you, it still needs to fire sounds, play animations, spawn effects and what not even if you aren't facing it, if only so that it looks right when you turn round, and unless it's behind some proper visblocking terrain, which most empires maps don't have because the mappers are a bunch or brain dead retarded monkeys, it's still being rendered behind the cliffs or whatever.

    There is a slight issue in that I don't think visleafs block particle rendering.

    Hmm...I guess. I did wonder why action half a map away was affecting me, I guess that would be why.

    Not sure about that, I would guess that one of the parameters somewhere in the effect defines the bounding box for rendering, but I don't know which.

    You obviously can't use the point entity because otherwise it would randomly cut out smoke plumes whenever the source moved behind a wall.

    Vehicle grenade launchers still use the old particles, specifically the HIT missile effect.

    just get rid of the smoke and it should be fine. No more lag for us lower end users and no more bitching about us having an unfair advantage to the people with higher end comps.

    i realy dont see whats wrong with empties particles... I have a shitty old comp and it runs empires 2.25 like its fucking cheese...

    Except on sundays when I get nothing but 300+ ping... but thats shitty network not the game

    I don't really spend that much on it, most of the time its people smoking me out for free.. It's the pain killers that are expensive and I only play emp when I am on those.

    empty - your particles are amazing, the rest of the game makes them look out of place.

    also you should consume less shrooms while designing particles !
