Muhahah, fantastic news! I'll be looking for it in my weekly HL2-crashing, computer-lagging Steam News Update!

 

Just a little thing really, but I seam to remember that when they've advertised mods before they had 1 or 2 screenshots (or maybe my minds just making this all up.) Perhaps we should check if they are going to use any and ensure that they have some of the best screenshots we can find, since alot of people will probably see them.

 

I think we should have only torrents on November 30, then on December 2 have Direct Downloads.

Or do an early release with only torrents have have DDL available on the 30th

 

There are going to be mirrors from moddb.com, filefront.com, and gamespot.com at the least.

 

No, a lot of people don't know how to use torrents. It would be pretty silly of us to force people and turn them away.

It looks like mirrors won't be a problem. (Also, please put it on fileshack).

 

Well, screenshot wise, I think I have some pretty good ones in the Screenshot (stretchy thread) thread. I made those for someone to hopefully use in our PR blitz.

 

So, no torrents, but perhaps other p2p software like emule oder edonkey?

Why on earth would you want to use p2p software if there are dozens of mirrors available?

1 torrent and normal mirrors and everything is fine. Everything released at the same time. (torrent can support enormous amount of downloaders)

 

I mean that we should offer both torrents and mirrors from the get-go. Forcing people one way just pisses em off.

 

yea, torrents for the 56k'ers. i'm wiling to be a seeder. just start the torrent, close utorrent, then replace the torrented installer with the one i dl'ed, right?

Anyway, I agree, having only torrents would turn even me off. I normally just look for good looking mods which also sound interesting and if I can't quickly download an installer from somewhere, I won't download it normally.

Downloading it by torrents isn't that simple as finding the download link and download the thing. I have to shut down my firewall, fix my connection, open my torrent client, add the torrent in it, wait until I get some connections and HOPE that download speed is more than 10kb/s so I'll get it during this day and not next month.

So yeah, torrents + only mirros sounds good.

 

yeah, use the empiresmod server for the game server- we know we'll need a good one for the first few days.

 

Putting the download on empiresmod.com would be the dumbest thing ever.

i believe steamfriends.com will be mirroring the installer aswell

 

If you allow DLs from empiresmod.com and empiresleague, they're both on the same network; if one lags, the other will as well.
