no.... you see.... the water doesnt "go away" 1/7 water does not "move". it remains... and expands over time due to rain. but i think i found a solution.... if i wait for it to freeze... followed by mining it away... then dump all ice blocks in some hole and seal it... then when they melt they should all be in the same little hole :D
Military don't socialise as much because they are training when they aren't sleeping, also I don't lose dwarves because I engineer to prevent unneccesary losses. I really only have a military because I have yet to think of a way to move traps and bridges around the fort. Rain only collects on murky pool tiles. It doesn't do it anywhere else. Get rid of the murky pools.
i was thinking more along the line of managing it sure you will have a 1 tile sea each spring, but when summer happens, it should be dealth with
ah, so you only have a "survivors knuckle crew" not really a well trained standing army i dislike depending on traps tbh, i place em on my secondary entrances as a way of slowing sneak attacks but thats about it
"oh lol look at me, i got 20 adamantite sawblade traps which can all 1-shoots demons" "oh lol look at me, i got a legendary siege weapon operator using a ballista that shoots like a machinegun" "oh lol look at me, i got lava/water traps killing off siege armys in 1 second" "oh lol look at me, i make the enemy walk around in a maze for 20 minutes where i can shoot them with my archers" Wuzzie tactics.
I haven't played this game in a couple months but on my last successful fort I found that having 20+ legendary axelords wielding masterpiece adamantine axes was the only real (and the most badass) way to succesfully defend a fort.
I would use the military if it was at all practical, but given the training speed and the fact that I have to clamp the fortress at about 100 people just to get a playable framerate (toady is the worst programmer ever) it really isn't. I would use interesting traps or siege weapons or something more entertaining but I can't have flowing water or anything because it also kills the framerate and siege weapons are entirely unreliable, as are most interesting traps. Basically the game sucks too hard to do anything really interesting in combat.
Manage a group of terminally retarded alcoholic manic depressive psychopaths and try to arrange it so that they don't die of starvation/dehydration/lack of alcohol/drowning/melted by lava/eaten by zombie sharks/go insane because they can't find any turtle shells/tunnel into hell and release the innumerable legions of demons hell bent on burning, murdering, and sexually assaulting the entirety of the surface world. At least in theory, mostly it is just an excuse for people to find inventive ways to kill goblins/the nobility/everyone in the fortress. Also zombie sharks are actually a serious threat for anyone living near an evil ocean, as any form of wildlife can appear as a zombie or skeleton variant, and all zombies are amphibious, which means that zombie bears can walk underwater, but also that zombie sharks can travel on land. Zombie whales are particularly annoying because they are extremely difficult to kill, being incredibly huge and having the standard undead benefits of being highly resistant to bludgeoning damage and unable to bleed. They also aren't inconvenienced much by having their liver smashed for example, while living creatures usually suffer badly from major organ failure.
"Interestingly, all tentacle demons are male, while other demons are classified as not having a sex." this made me lol
http://df.magmawiki.com/index.php/File:Colossus_in_Arena.png I don't see how that can be a collossus in an arena fighting a goblin. I just can't adjust my eyes to "the matrix" or what not.
That is native graphics without any tilesets applied. By using a tileset stuff gets real graphics... ex of some monsters:
It's more fun without a tileset once ya get used to it. And there's also more freedom regarding the size and zoom of the window iirc. *actually looks at the image* the colossus is the brown C fyi. Edit: For easy Colossi slaying in adventure mode, have a high throwing skill and throw fluffy wamblers.
Another lost fortress, this time tantrum and dwarfs drinking muddy water even if theirs enough booze to fill a sea in the fortress -.-
