Stuff that gets more complicated than simple parenting and rotation. Or stuff that isn't really player controlled. For example a spinning radar dish, reload animations or setting up jiggle bones for antennas.
that was actually my point. all current animations on empires tanks are better dealt with by code. and you cannot do that because of empires or because of source?
Exactly. And that is exactly how it is now. I don't intend to change it. I never said we couldn't. It just wouldn't make a lot of sense to let aesthetic stuff be controlled by code, because it would be unnecessary work for the coders, where we modelers and animators can set that up fairly easily.
The legs are thrwoing me off for some readon, I think it's because the entire thing feels much more bulky than what is currently in place.
It looks almost like a deployable sub-station to me. Scale the model up and add a room on the underbelly and you have a whole new building :p Still looks good as whatevs, though.
I think maybe it would look more fitting if the lower bit telescoped from the higher bit? then it would look portable.
Yeah, it would fit the style of the lower piece if the top telescopes upwards on a thin & straight stalk. Then it would look like the device wad originally compact, but expanded to be installed. Hawt
Ok so I've made some changes, I literally had 0 ideas on how to make the legs be telescoped so I've tried something else. I think that they should look portable but you also have to remember that engineers can place huge walls and turrets so its not as if we're aiming for 100% realism. Anyway here's what I have now, still very WIP. I may change the shape of the joints and where it attaches to the main body still.
I think it should be closer to the ground more than a tripod. Like im thinking the stuff clamps to the ground, this looks like I can knock it on its side. It looks good, but it kinda too big. One of the best things of the deploys was how easy it was to hide them behind a wall. Unless you plan to shrink them.
