Maybe if you go in the radar you would see what being researched on your screen? Scouts could also be able to hack the radar to see what the enemy is researching at that time.
This and the original idea are both great. It would save a lot of time having players ask what's researching and comms telling players what's coming. Maybe you could get rid of the queue all toghether, and make the research bar visible to comm and players even with the research menu closed. It would be much easier to keep track of research that way.
