Because it's a shitload of work to do it yourself, and Valve said they'd release the source code of their TF2 version of it shortly.
tl;dr There was a server with a source mod plugin that turned off player collision for your team. Dont remember which server it was, was a while back >.<
If something cool isn't implemented in empires, it's because it's a coding thing. Trust me, collision detection and "pushing" is really, really annoying to get right.
Yes please remove collisionschecks for infantry. Getting stuck is so incredibly annoying not to mention this doesn't happen in game like Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead or any of the Battlefield series. Over work collisions check in general. I never got stuck in BF2142 with any vehicle except the walker, so I find it twice infuriating when I got stuck again. I don't tell my friends anymore I go play Empires, instead I say "I'm going to get stuck". But coding collisions check is rather work than fun.
Ye, i would really hate to see bunch of ghosts going throuh themelves. About revveg guy getting stuck in you: if you get up right after you are revved, you will not get stuck (95% i would say) If revved person spin around, you will get stuck. JUST GET UP AFTER REVVED FFS
Use the unstuck commnad? lol a whole thread full of fail. Also buff entreance for armouries. OR EVEN BETTER! Make it a balance question! If you want a higher force you build more barracks and armoires otherwise you will need to take the shit with people not getting to the battle line fast.
Yeah, so now you can push your teammates out from behind walls, into enemy fire, onto mines. Good idea there, griefers. Collision works fine. Wider doors on barracks and buildings would solve a lot of the issues with it, especially the NF armory, which is a piece of fail building.
Insurgency. Small doors and friendly collision and little to no push ability. Leaving spawn sometimes is an adventure.
TF2's way of doing it seems best, if we can manage that. Make it so the person moving in is the one who gets pushed, if they try to stop while inside an enemy. But basically, I think that pushing would result in less griefing than blocking does. Blocking lets you grief people without even meaning to.
You can already push people onto mines with a tank, and if you are marginally intelligent the tank will survive to be re used. Which is a legitimate strategy for clearing mines, I think, but in any case its not often a problem. The effort required to grief with (limited!!!) infantry pushing is way more then the effort required to grief in many other ways, and it comepletely eliminates the crowding and griefing issues with the raxes and NF ammorys.
