It would assuming there is no air resistance, no friction between bullet and barrel, no energy goes into the expanding gasses and bits of crap that spew out the end of the barrel, etc. So actually if the enemy gets hit and flied back 10 feet, the gun and the shooters hand should fly to the end of the map :p

Anyway, its kindof a stupid mechanic for people to go flying after getting shot, this isn't an action movie.

    oversimplification of science is AWESOME!

Anyways, you're also forgetting this is in terms of forces. If the shooter has ways to disperse the force that the shootee doesn't, then the shootee will feel like they've been hit with much more punch, even after the energy loss from travel. For example, most guns have ways to release the gases from the explosion and dampeners to reduce the kick back. Only a portion of all that explosive energy is given to a very small dense object. However, the impact of that small object imparts more energy per square area on the target than the original explosion on the shooter, thus creating a high-energy impact in a localized area, maximizing the energy transfer and thus damage.

Granted, if your bullet can make someone fly across a room, your gun should be in orbit or you've got bionic arms. Damage doesn't equal total force applied.

I've ignored this thread forever but now I agree, yes the push should be reduced. In a one on one gun battle, whoever lands the first shot has a huge advantage because the other will fly back and suffer recoil, which wont subside for several seconds.
