Using 1280x960- for some really fucked up reason 1280x1024 makes my Steam crash.

1280x960 is the 4 aspect ratio resolution, 1280x1024 is stretched. I'd guess that somewhere along the line your hardware doesn't like non-"4" resolutions.

 

It likes 1024x800 otherwise, so I can't see where the problem lies.

 

is it your monitor/tft thing?

 

No idea, it's an old monitor though.

 

I really really want to play empires in widescreen, that would be so awesome :D

can you do dual monitors in empires? useful for commanding?

 

I have a widescreen, and it's much fun.

You can't do dual screens I have those too (but my 2nd screen is an old 17 crt)

As a dual monitor user without a single problem I wonder what problem there is?

 

try moving your mouse out of the screen in comm mode and then clicking.. = alsmost instant crash/minimize
I have the same problem cause I have my tv connected to the PC...

First off: I have the same problem, rather annoying to comm :p
