    Empires supports up to 64 players and most of the time a single server can be filled up with 50 players. You know the difference.

    Empires' maps are huge and VERY costly especially because Source engine is not designed for such huge maps. I can still remember the long loading time in the old days, the developers have done A LOT to optimize this.

    --------------
    Patience is key. In less than three weeks of time, two more updates have been made to optimize and balance the game. I believe Empty said that the particles set wasn't even ready/optimized for the 2.25 release. FPS drops/some improper lookings of particles are expectable.

    Developing a mod is an ongoing progress and things cannot be achieved in one day. Empires is not a commercial game, if you are expecting perfect releases, you might be expecting too much from a mod.

    :)

    Orlly, I like graphics, I'm not a new gamer, and I think I'm not an idiot for liking better graphics, not that hard to get, right? At least for the average mind ...

    Nah I thought it fixed it but I had to reinstall pickles particles. I really don't see the need for a cloud of smoke to linger after a mowtar shell explodes. If I need to get rid of that to not lag then people will bitch about it being cheating. He should just remove it.

    If it's not too late to hop to the perfomance train...

    My computer is around a year old now since I assembled it (I don't know the actual ages of my components. Maybe they are like 2-3 years old.) and my computer can run Metro 2033 on full settings in DX 9 mode without AA in 1024x768 around 50-60 fps most of the time. At times the fps drops to 30 but usually it's around 50.

    With the particle effects included in 2.25 for Empires my fps in the beginning of a match was usually 300-250. Then during the match it was 80-60 or so and when there were big tank battles going on it dropped usually to around 18-25.

    And my computer is Q9550, GTX 280 1024Mbs, Sound Blaster Fatal1ty Titanium X-fi and 4 Gbs Corsair's RAM (can't remember the speed of it).

    So I like it that particle effects are getting optimized.

    That's not right Weedy. I'm running a much weaker card on a higher resolution with more effects and I get 40+FPS consistently.

    AA=Fail Turn it off.

    Those of you with 3 cores or more, should tab after you start up empires, and set its affinity so it doesn't use the first core.

    This makes the engine actually use the other cores, instead of just going 'blaargh' on one.

    Yeah, AA totally rapes my 9600gt. Not sure why his GX280 would have that large decrease in performance as it has 240 stream processors, compared to 64 on my card.

    Anti-Aliasing doesn't do much on Empires @1920x1080 to warrant having it enabled on my system.
