now you're just being anal Some kind of a bot looks nice on paper but i doubt it would work right in practice. If you want it then go do it. If its not possible then forget it. Its a pipe dream that the devs shouldnt waste any time on, except maybe make it possible for the community to do all the work themselves
Bots work well in practice too. Just look at NS which had numerous bot servers that provided a great place for newbs to learn the mod and improve themselves without ruining the game for vets. At the very minimum, bots could provide warm bodies in servers until enough people joined to have a non-bot match. 1v1 district sucks, but 10v10 district (with 9 bots per side) would be entertaining enough until other people joined.
I concur with scardy here, bots would defiantly be beneficial as warm bodies, its way easier for noobs to try to figure out how to drop a turret when there are bots smashing at each other at some obvious front line than getting shot in the back by a squad of rev engys on a rape mission. and it would solve the low server pop problem, we cant have more than 2 real active servers running for empires cause most games with less than 14 players or so generally suck. Stick some filler in there to liven up the game.
Agree NS bots kicks alot of a§§ for how simple they are. Im sure we can implement something of the sort in empires. Even if they are retarded they can still be used on a training server to teach the n00bs how to do stuff. Especially how to command the bots to do stuff.
Just download the Valve Source Engine as you would for making a mod. The NPC code is also located there. Also, try http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Creating_an_NPC But Arklansman is right, you wouldn't be able to put any of them in Empires without being a Dev/access to the Empires code. There might be a way to incorporate them via a plugin like you would a bot, but I have no idea how.
ask the ppl who created the NS bots. They can at least give you the ladder to success, its up to you to set it up and climb it tho.
is adding half life 2 monster really that difficult? all they do is just stand there and shoot right? you could just add info nodes to make them move
Spawwn isn't exactly the god of bots. If someone made third party bots for TF2 that played nigh every class to some degree, you can make bots which play empires infantry combat easy. Step 1 Crouch Step 2 Activate aimbot Step 3 Hold mouse1 Step 4 Repeat
No. I didn't mean bots couldn't be coded, I mean, bots will not be implemented. Big difference. Empires is about People in place of the units. If you add bots, then it is turned into every other RTS. Like I said, I discussed this with Spawwn.
