What I meant was: NPCs can be possible on Empires, not by which game it was based of, but just by code.
id think bots like a "stand in commander" would do empires good is there any willpower to make something simple and basic like this happen?
scout copter npcs commander controlled that don't do damage and can be taken down with infantry rpg shots (NOT ML TURRETS IT NEEDS SOMEONE HUMAN TO DO IT BECAUSE INTERACTION IS KEY TO A GOOD GAME!)
I say that NPCs should: -Follow orders. -Shoot enemies but not be able to see through walls and crap. -If an engie, repair nearby structures. ...if they're playing as actual players. If not, then just automated things, kinda like the turrets.
NPCs are not the same as bots btw. NPC stands for Non-Player Character, Character implies a storyline of some sort not just a random ass soldier on the frontline. What you guys are talking about are bots. And before anyone says anything about AI, its not AI, its VI. /raeg
Dude we are talking about npcs. BOTS are made to act like synthetic players, NPCS follow ai algorithms and priority list. things in empires for a priority list would be [Npc's thoughts] 1.commander has ordered refinery built at point something something something. 1a.spot is not taken, go ahead and build. 1B.spot is taken, go to priority 2 2.request which action to take. 2a.yes, go blow it up 2b.no get someone else to do it. A bot thinks differently, in fact, I doubt bots think at all without something giving them a push in the right direction. And plus they are characters, as you can see they look just like engies, riflemen, grenadiers, and scouts.
depending on your definition virtual and artificial intelligence are synonyms def of artificial intelligence: where an intelligent agent is a system that perceives its environment and takes actions that maximize its chances of success. in other words, running around at the targets the come gives, searches for players and shoots at them its not because of people creating artificial intelligences even before the name was commonly used, that you have to divide it into 2 categories, being "smart" and "stupid" ones because that division is completely imaginary, there is no magic boundary that once crossed suddenly an intelligence becomes "smart" also NPC and BOT nearly mean the same thing, the difference in this context is neglect-able and everyone understands exactly what he means
Theowningone is correct, but enough people use the terms interchangeably that I consider them synonymous in most conversations. For example, An Empires NPC would be a builder robot that runs around constructing buildings An Empires bot would be a VI who spawns as an engineer and runs around constructing buildings They do the same thing, but are technically two different things. Whatever you call them, I still think Empires would greatly benefit from some type of AI or VI.
