My take on the mod

    That won't help in maps like Money though....as that price is easily reached....

    There are better ways to ballence the artilliary. honestly, arty would be nigh unusable if you had to deploy. I think that Precision and less damage / blastradius would make the pwnage a lot less.

    Well, the turret would still be movable in like an arc of 60°.

    Much like the turret on the M3 Grant/Lee, yeah, I can agree with that.

    My suggestion is though - make the turret movable to a degree, and make it deploy. That way people CAN use arty against stationary targets and infantry, but if a tank comes rushing and they have no support, they're screwed.

    I'm convinced making the price 400% of the current one will make the artillery spam go away immediatly. And other vehicles will be needed in the late game, and like... STRATEGY!


    God damn dumbass artillery spammers don't know how to strategize for shit...

    no to price increase; if it's that pricy then what sensible commander would ever let any new player use them, which would mean that they don't get part of the fun of the game. even experienced players would rarely get the joy of using them.

    furthermore, I don't think that it would make the game more fun. just saying "It's powerful, let's hike the price" isn't creating a fun, enjoyable4all solution, it's just a cheap coppout.

    any previous team's fun of "there are 2 arties attacking this area" would become "ZOMG THEIR ARTY IS NOW IN A4" as if it was an uber unit.

    and with deploying, It's not the range of fire that would be the problem (I imagine you would want to give it 360 degrees if I were you; 60 degrees is only 1/6 of the total available angles = barely 1 screen). the problem is Rocket sniping. Arty's now can just about avoid a rocket if they see it being launched, as they have generally poor accelleration. but if they were deployed, just shooting back at the arty at the same range as it can hit you would mean that artilliary would either have to be constantly deploying / undeploying and unable to shoot, only ever be usable when behind a wall big enough to cover all of it, or if it was given gigantic extra range (oh, or rockets might run out of boost, but I don't think the dev's like that one)

    Not doing anything to it would result in the same old situation, the first person to research artillery chasses has a prolonged instant win.

    How about the higher the shell flys the more off trajectory it can get? (Due to wind sheers and such) So if you are trying to spam a base from a safe distance, you shots wont be really that sniper class as it is now... If the shells viered off course so that you could only do an "Area bombardment" then it would incourage the use of teamwork of artilery (Instead of the lone Pwner of tank and infantry)

    Ideas suggested so far

    -Deploy to fire
    -Inacurate shells
    -ZOMG NERF TEH ARTY :D
    -Increase the price
    -Decrease/Null the damage to tanks unless direct hit
    -Remove scout rifles

    I think thats everything... :p

    Deploy to fire WON'T WORK because they can just be sniped by rockets. has anyone actually found a counter to this idea, or can we accept that it's not going to work.

    Thats the whole point, that an artilery cant just take out the base by itself but needs some sort of an escort to guard it while it pummels the enemy positions...

    People often seem to try to balance things 1:1 without trying to balance the whole thing as one organic mass, where an effect on one has an impact on the other part...

    i like this mod, its pretty good. i clont have any advice for it that hasnt been said. i need to download it for my new comp..

    most likey tho, im going to switch over to Caliber when it comesout. wall-walking FTW!!

    Shizon: it's almost impossible to defend artilliary against rocket strikes, unless you only ever ever have them deploy behind fully prepared walls, or behind some large natural barrier. and either is hardly effective against an enemy that can easily flank such an obstical.

    nay, rocket sniping will be the untimate undoing of any deployable.

    I don't suppose that deployable could be brought in a package with the end of rocket sniping? something for both sides...

    (that or arty would have to get out of the line of sight of things, if maps get bigger then how about hugely upping the range of arty? it'd also make aiming a touch trickier I suppose but if you saw an arty firing at you you'd have time to drive your tank the 3 miles away from the shell you need to get to not die...)

    That way arty will have to actualy either bomb static targets, or team carpet bomb an area as an ambush spotted by ZOMG teh scout...

    I like the idea of deployable arty. Sure, let it fire before being deployed, but make it have such horrendous recoil and deplorable accuracy that you have to deploy to really hit anything. It might be a good idea to either give the arty a second seat for a passenger/assistant or have an engy in a jeep follow you. Once deployed, or perhaps pre-deployment, the comm or the engy can build a wall barricade to reduce the chance of getting hit by rocket fire. Kinda a mini-fort for the arty.

    Making arty deployable would undoubtedly be a positive overall improvement to the mod. Perhaps there's a different way to fix the problem, but deployment is one that keeps popping up and it certainly seems reasonable. After all, Empires isn't CS. It's supposed to require teamwork, so why are we all so opposed to something that will increase teamwork and make arty a little less of an AWP on treads?

    I don't really think it's fair to make any vehicle into a sitting duck, and quite useless to any single player. Yeah, it would be helped with team play, but it shouldn't require any more than 1 person to function effeiciently.
