    I decided to make a new thread because it was too confusing to try and make a point on the last thread, which was about JETPACKS.

    I thought it would be a neat idea to implement JUMPjets into the game:
    - Engineer Only (OR Scout, after Rifle is nerfed/removed)
    - Doesn't take you very far, only high, to allow you to get on top of something
    - Has a long recharge time, to prevent people from jumping around a lot
    - Since it doens't take you very far, people can't use it to fight from the air
    - Available as a Skill after researched./Maybe needs to be built from AF, to prevent crap on Escort or District
    - Needs to be researched.
    - Doesn't have any upgrades.
    - Maybe an upgradeable skill allows for faster recharge time.

    Imagine building on top of the city buildings in Cyclopean (some of them). Or, getting to all those walkways in Gauntlet to defend from attackers using the catwalks!

    This would give people a reason to ALWAYS build the AF, even if the map was too small for aircraft. Thus, the AF could be used on all maps, whether they were designed before aircraft or after.

    Ok, to clarify the whole JETpack thing, and to give an arguement to the whole "would look out of place/doesn't go with theme/would look silly" thing, here's Olla's post:

    ...so more ways to exploit? This would require maps to have quite a bit of modifying. Con.

    Dee, I was posting that so people wouldn't get confused. And you said it would look silly, but you didn't tell me exactly what would look silly, so I assumed you meant it would fit the Empires look in-game. So I posted that post, which includes Olla talking about people thinking it would fit the theme.

    Knight, what exactly would people exploit? All I've seen 'exploited' so far is glitches in maps. Go talk to the map makers. Stuff like turret spamming, arty whoring, or nuking, is a part of the game, fun or not fun. People say these things should be fixed, but there is so much that one could label as "cheap".

    Personally, I don't see how these can be "exploited". You have to first RESEARCH them, then build an Aircraft Factory, then be an engineer and buy one, and even then it just goes up. If you did that against a rifleman, he would just look up at you, and shoot you. If he missed, you'd come crashing down, not be able to jumpjet again for a long time, with part of your health gone. Good bye says the rifleman.

    ohnoes air pirates stoeled meh blimbz, maybe give em like a microphone and theyd be like "YE LANDLUBBERS ARRRRRRRR" and like grenade spam them from high up and do some kickass pistol whip fight in the sky

    Jumpjets would look outta place..

    Not too high-tech or anything, it'd just be weird, it just doesnt fit Empires.

    But thats my thousand dollars, I doubt all would agree with me.


    Oh and.. You guys should get help, seriously, you're ill.. :D

    Ok. We're gonna ignore the off-topic spredzors above.

    I understand what everyone is saying about out of place, but try and get past that. It would expand the gameplay, and you can't really exploit it, and you can't really find a negative besides it's look. It's one of the few suggestions that is actually thought up well, and doesn't have a huge blatant and obvious negative that everyone will argue about.

    Would it even be that hard to put in game (towards someone with the experience and ability to do so). If not, then there is definitly a chance here...

    I think it'd be pretty interesting, as I've said before, though some map work might need to be done, because I know if they're implemented someone will find a way to get out of the map. That's what beta's for though :) I want a big cloud of smoke for NF, and maybe some kind of bright trail for BE. Or maybe bionic legs for NF, since they do have implants, and actual boosters for BE. I don't know if it should be given to engies though. Maybe scouts since they're supposed to be the extremely mobile class. They can get to high places and, well, scout! A long recharge time is good, and possibly losing a bit of health after your fall. I really don't see how this would hurt gameplay as opposed to making it more diverse. They don't put much distance from you and the enemy(except height wise) so if you're in a firefight and jump straight back, the enemy will probably just chase you can kill you anyway. In my campaign for a more useful scout, I say give them jumpjets/bionic legs to aid in scouting and stealth.

    Dee wins this thread. And agreed, maps would need to be reformated. Just for an Engineer trinket.

    Plus, it subtracts from human towers! Meh. No to mention what all sorts of bad things would happen when people land on tanks. Clipping issues and all that.

    I'm not sure if this works, but there are already maps where some weapons shouldn't be allowed (eg. arty on money). same would go for jumppacks.
    (I also like the bionic legs idea)

    On the class topic... this depends on the balancing. ATM the engineer is powerful enough. Not too powerful, but would be with jumpjets. Jumpjets for the rifleman maybe? to invade over walls? Maybe had to carry a weaker/lighter weapon for balance? (see BF1942 addon: Secret Weapons of WWII... well that was a rocketpack)

    The scout and JUMPjet thing has already been discussed in the thread about JETpacks, and many many people flamed about how scouts + scout rifle + JUMPjet = No.
    From a "No-Scout-Rifle-In-Game" point of view, I woud like to see JUMPjets on scouts, I can understand that would balance it since they lose their rifle.

    As for the maps needing reformatting, Olla has a point! You already have crud that needs reformatting on every map! I was playing crossroads last night, my favorite map, and I fell through the ground. NF side, the left cliff path that leads along the cliff side past the gate (that allows you to get ontop of the gate).

    I was walking, and blam, I'm in the ground. Very disorientating. I just kept walking and I came out of the wall and it was like I had been Alice in Wonderland.

    Yeah, like the maps are perfect right now, and a JUMPjet would ruin them with magical "exploits" that you haven't even tried to test yet.

    LOL. Well, I support it too as long as the scout rifle is taken out, because a scout with a rifle and a jumpjet would be no fun. At least in Tribes everyone could have jumpjets :D

    im all down for giving scouts jumpjets after the sniper rifle is removed. but if only 1 class has them then making them researched and paid for is a bit much, mabey just research and a skill?

    You know, you do have a point. It would be more smart to have it only cost money to research, so you wouldn't have people buying jumpjets and then just going somewhere and dieying, like Jeeps. I'll update my first post.

    Great idea Mr. Quackams! (And I know people suggested it as a skill before, but not under the context we have now).
    EDIT: This would also encourage the Emp_Recruits to focus more on teamwork, to get more points, so they could have the cool looking JUMPjet things too :D
