Exterior effects of vehicle parts + Sounds/Sprites

Well if all the display is done client side it will only lag if your gfx card cant handle it, like with the dust from the tracks that Krenzo added back in.

 

If they have collision models they will use atleast a small bit of networking between server and client side, eg more lag.

 

I thought the Im sure the turrents do but If I rember the barrels dont... actualy they dont Im sure now rember going inside of the pyramid in Cyclopedia with a med tank and I rember a funny movie of tank "jousting" lol

That's not necessaryly true.
There is a clear line between server and client side.
Gibs for example are entirely client side (like wallgibs, blood, decals, empty casings, etc.).
Afaik, same thing for the visible vehicle physics (springs, dampener, etc.).

Everything without (or little) gameplay relevance should and hopefully will not be networked.

 

Look, I just want to be able to spraypaint a giant lobster on the side of my tank... or maybe a Dukes of Hazard style confederate flag on my jeep... or perhaps cheesecake. That would be a great addition to the planes--being able to spray Playboy's Mrs. October on the nosecone of your gunship would be sexiful and a throwback to WWII fighters.

Or maybe it would just be a sexist throwback.

Either way... custom paint jobs ftw.

I certainly wouldn't know. Seems less complicated then all those exterior parts, but then again, I can't even crack Bodrick's (Brodericerick?) crazy devil puzzles from the depths of hell.

 

It would be possible, but won't happen.

From what I know there's a planned feature to have some kind of insignia on your playermodel, and hopefully your vehicle, too.

If you want to add an image to your vehicle, couldn't you just modify the vehicle model and apply it? Only problem is that then everyone in your view would have it.

 

Well think of moments in HL2 where you fire the paint cans at physics objects, and they leave a mark. Or even in garry's mod, where you can apply sprays and things. It can't be that tricky to set up the normal spraycan to wrap on vehicles, then you could put your logo wherever you wanted it.

But that is not related to this suggestion.

 

Only you can see it. However, Krenzo could probably design the textures in such a way that it just takes your spraytag picture as the texture (may not be above 80KB) and then puts it on the vehicle. But I doubt he'll do that, because no one wants to see Goatse on vehicles.

Thats doesn't stop it though. Do you really want to see a Emp_Recruit running around in a jeep for hours with goatse on the side because no admin is there?

 

What are you talking about? Goatse is awesome... I fail to see how anyone could have nothing but respect for someone who can stretch his anus that wide!

Well, the vehicle can move. I can just see a Emp_recruit driving into the enemy base and assaulting them with the goatse on there jeep.

 

If he was a scout and the new sabotage ability came with satchel charges .. hell .. that would be awesome.
