Way back when, I suggested that the comm be given a map they can 'draw on' with the mouse, letting them cause temporary circles, x-es, arrows, and so on to appear on their ally's maps, like someone planning a football strategy. This would make it easy for them to communicate strategy (a big arrow showing where they want to attack from, say.) Well, another thought came to me: In the pre-game, why not give that ability to everyone? Have it so pushing the arty-feedback-map brings up the map you can draw on. And anyone can draw on it during the setup phase. It's good to talk strategy while setting up, particularly on servers that give you the time to do so. And if it encourages that it could help choose a comm, too. Yeah, a lot of people will use it to draw pictures of penises. But so what? It's the pre-game, it doesn't matter. And even using it for that would be fine if they're bored and nobody is using it for strategy. :p Oh. And if you mute a player, you don't see what they draw. Simple. Uh, when muting works, but that's another issue.
i love this idea, warhawk has this and so does guild wars. it works out really good, would especially be useful in the 35 minutes u have before the game.
That's going straight to JPL's library of strategies. Oh and great idea, it'll make scrims less painful to plan.
Yeah this is in one of the design things I sent dizzy. As well at start of map pretty much having a 30 second thing where elected commander could drop wps for squads and outline strategy and commander can give permissions for people/or maybe just SLs to draw on map. I think it would be a bad idea allowing everyone to go at it though at start of game. Even if they are just drawing penises 10-20 people drawing shit would easily ruin the commanders ability to organize, even 2-3 people could ruin it. Battlefield type respawn menu would also work well with this.
The players should be able to turn it off though so only a map shows cus a grefing comm could scrible out the map causeing problems. But this idea does have merrit. HAVE A COOKIE :D:D:D
If your commander is griefing I think the least of your problems would be him calling you a 'Vag' on the minimap
Yeah, it should totally be implemented! However, maybe make the commander vote time shorter and after that a short planning time where there appears a big map to everyone on the team and the comm can scribble stuff on it... These scribbles would be visible on the artillary targets map, maybe rename it to "objectives map"...
It could be a togglable layer in the regular 'm' map. Tab or caps lock can cycle between showing the overlay and not.
And to prevent the overuse if you allow squad leaders to use this, have a small bar that measures the "ink" you use when drawing out the lines, when it runs out, it means you gotta erase to draw something else...
just make the pen thickness really thin, so it takes like 5 minutes to cover the screen. And enable the 'ink-mute'.
Lol... But we hoped that it won't turn into a scribble war... But that idea would have to be in as another mod... You draw and send em to kill....
Give a commander an "erase all" function where he can erase everything written on the board but himself if it becomes to clattered. "In commander we trust."
It's not a bad idea but it might require some clever implementation. To make it clear: I'm not thinking about implementing it atm at all.
