Is it possible to have the map change what vehicles are allowed on vehicletraining, after the map loads, possibly on a vote?

Because the waiting for players time could be used to set what the game of vehicletraining is going to be training, and this would be better than having multiple versions of vehicletraining.

Jeep training? LT training? Med Training? APC training? C'mon guys this could get a lot more fun than heavies slamming into each other over and over again.

On maps without radars, I think you can unresearch the researchable chassis using some config file, but I don't think you can limit the default chassis.

You could do different maps. To change researcher after the map was loaded there is the research / unresearch command. But would probably needs a plugin made for it to work with a vote.
Before the map loads there is a config that says what's researched.
Is there really a point in doing it?

Vehicle training is a way for new people to learn how to build vehicles and play around with different loadouts.

Because vehicletraining often comes up as a server populating map, but it is always just heavies killing heavies, when it could be training for other vehicles as well.

If someone has a heavy you can't really use the other vehicles, you're just gonna die.

    This is the Escort cfg:
Try setting emp_sv_unresearch_item "Artillery Tank Chassis" to emp_sv_unresearch_item "APC Chassis" or something and see what happens?

It's easy to do with a variety of configs. Only the default config can be the mapname, but getting a plugin to execute "emp_vehicletrainingapc.cfg", "emp_vehicletrainingmeds.cfg" shouldn't be too difficult.

It would be a pretty hacky way of doing it, but you could leave the plugin in the disabled folder, and then use "sm plugins load disabled/cfgexecuter.smx" in the vehicletraining default map config. I don't know if the plugin would be disabled after the mapchange or if you'd need to put the disable command in the server.cfg so it runs on every mapchange just in case the plugin was active after vehicletraining was played.

As to the actual point of your post, I do get the fact that Heavies aren't really that fun, but I don't see how fun APC vs APC combat would be, or Med vs Med. Perhaps it would be better if the map was edited (probably difficult at this stage, fuck knows if Silk still has the vmf) so that each flag you capture grants you some research, and losing that flag loses you the research. This should also stop the game going on too long because if a team captured nearly every flag which gave them fully researched heavies or something, the other team would have no flags and virtually no research.

Obviously this would probably require some thought so that it's not too easy for one team to steamroll because they capped the flags first, but I'm sure something enjoyable could be worked out, and then it'd force slightly more varied combat based on the tech available. If you just had equal flags each, then it should probably give you Meds with armours and engines, but no weaponry. This would be pretty nice because taking nimble LTs with the same weapons as the Meds with more armour would actually be a viable option. And as we know, LTs are fun as fuck.

It's not that the other vehicle combats would necessarily be more fun, it's that they'd be a major change of pace, make the game mode less stagnant :P

Especially because LTs and Meds are used a lot more then Heavies overall, but don't get their own training maps.

I use apcs on vehicle training all the time.
Go gren + apc for ammo. Drop 8 mines on the flag.

APC Chassis isn't research, so it wouldn't work.

You could add "APC Chassis" in research_items.txt and then add the requirement for "APC Chassis" in vehicle_nf_apc.txt (and the BE equiv). That would work.

But it's not a good idea to fuck with research unless you're Trickster-san doing it for the stock game. It's hard to make clientside tweaks to research_items.txt that don't fuck up your game on stock servers. Trust me, I commed like that once and it didn't end well.

Playing with funscripts is bad enough cause you can't build tanks, but commanding a pub with funscripts? You should be ashamed of yourself. All in the name of science, but still you should be ashamed.

Could always ask for code support for cfg files that are named exactly the same as the maps name to auto run. That has a TON of uses. For example you would no longer have to recompile a map to make changes to is research list.

They should just release the code......what could it hurt?
Average week player count is about 6 people.
Releasing the code might bring some people back to empires.

So if I can draw a conclusion from your statement... your saying if we keep suggesting it, we might get more devs?

Anyways back to my suggestion... would it be difficult to have the server run cfg files for each map?

But last time someone asked for the code to be released their was the issue of people using it to exploit. Back then there was "vac". Being as there is no vac anymore people are able to do just about anything. So would it really matter? ...... as long as valves crap got removed first.

They already do that.................... Make a map, make a cfg called the same as the mapname, the .cfg will run when the map is loaded..

Yeah, go to the cfg/maps folder in empires/ and check what it says for escort (which I also posted in this thread).
