work out a good design document, and pledge to try and keep as much to it as you can and il pay up 100 bucks for ya up front no strings attached (if its not just empires in a new engine, fix the crappy parts while you are at it or at least try)
I would have given a lot before, but now I basically just don't have that much faith in you guys. Not that you aren't working hard, but these days I'd need to see something fairly decent before investing... Funny, really, 2 years ago I probably would have forked out a hundred quid or so easily, but now... it's more like £30 for a finished game and maybe half that for a decent alpha/beta. A better GUI, more ways to prevent commander abuse, and a focus on public rather than elite gameplay would be essential for that. I still think there are some shortcuts to be taken in a class/skill overhaul, even if you leave out a rebuild, there are a quite a few ways to make things easier/friendlier for players. A lot of the general skills could be reworked into the classes themselves, while the class-specific skills could be expanded into situational/timed abilities. Alternatively, though this is a fair bit harder, you could use the differentiated body type (e.g. light, medium, heavy) and make each skill/ability use up a <insert name> specific capacity for that body type. Whatever, however you wanna do it, it's just a bit hokey right now. A skill amalgamation would be easier, but lose a bit of the personal playstyle customisation that we have now.
Just throwing it out there that this is MOOtant taling about this Ikalx, no-one else. Whether that lowers, increases or keeps your faith the way it is, is up to you.
Just to point out that common mistake: consumption spending is not an investment, you won't be earning money by playing Empires.
Whhhat? You can't make money from playing Empires? What have I been doing with my life?! I was gonna cash in all my hours and move to Thailand.
Well you know, I don't play Empires much anymore... just don't often need that rage in my life. I get more rage, and less fun and teamwork...so it's just a bit pointless now. I meant investment more in the colloquial sense, and the fact that it's more an investment in getting Empires out into the world - because I don't even shell out £30 for a polished AAA game.
Yes, it's me and Megel talking about it, question was - assuming it all works out - how much it'd be worth to you. And yes I know I haven't been very specific about what it'll include.
It's about what things are rewarded in Empires that makes "community" what it is. Change what wins games, ban dicks on forums and problem solved.
Reading this thread actually got me thinking about things that would be really fun in an Empires styled game... So I wrote them down
give me empires on a decent engine say cry engine or unreal engine and I will pay now. once you have a decent working version of the game think about the bf3 way and have a open beta that will then entice people to buy the game as they have had a decent taster.
