Christmas Contest On VIPER

Time for another contest, I haven't done one in a long while, so I figured it was time since the holidays are coming up.

Contest starting time:
Wednesday Oct 7th
Contest Ending Time: Dec 7th
Players with the most time played will win a $25.00 game of their choice on steam or $25.00 dollars towards a game of their choice.

The player with the most time in the server will be double checked that they were actually playing not just parking their name.

don't need to lure players on VIPER, but I have run a few contests in the past on VIPER, and did many on my css server, but your choice not to participate.

 

yeah I had a css server for 4 years, had 3 of them one mod css server (zombies, Warcraft etc), deathwatch server and reg server. I ran monthly contests on it. I still had it up when I found empires but put up viper empires and shut down my css servers. I had a UT server before css I think I cant recall.

We had about 40-50 VIPER clan members back then, they didn't like empires so the clan split up. Me and VIPER Sparky if you remember him were the clan leaders.

 

Why not most valid points in the server?

I'll just play intensively for a week and wait for the prize. :D

 

there is no plugin for that so I would have to reset stats tomorrow, I doubt players want to lose their stats, unless you have another way of keeping track of points for 2 months.

 

Actually I meant score.
But maybe it's even harder to track of?

 

If I go with score or points it would put less experienced players at a disadvantage Playing time doesn't discount anyone and everyone has a chance to win.

I think its more fair that way.

But I am open to suggestions I just want anyone who has been playing to have a fair shot at the prize.

also someone suggested that admins be excluded, I don't agree, everyone can compete, if an admin does win, then he and the next non admin get the pirze..to keep it fair.

 

Its a foregone conclusion since it will go to scrat or whamo anyway.

LOL last week JGF had the most playing time, and like I said if an admin wins so does the next non admin with highest playing time wins as well.

 

I genuinely believe that "score-based" tournament would give more people opportunity.

Unless these people will magically disappear, I believe one of them will win the game with almost zero uncertainty.

There's some sort of relationship between your score and your play time anyway.

 

but that's deceiving cause most of my time in server is in spec. Remember, I will check my logs to see if the one with highest connection time was actually playing for most of it. You cant just leave your name in spec for hours and expect to win or even sit in a team's base, the logs tell all

but true about the points telling me if the connection time was mostly playing or not.

 

when you say score what do you mean? points? Kills? Deaths (I'd win that) if its points, that's not fair for commanders, and if it is a relatively newer person he/ she might not get as many points as a skilled player with equal time playing

If a newb won't spend time on this game, he won't win anyway.
If he will spend a lot of time on this game, he might even get more total points than some not-very-active vets.

IMO, everybody gets a ticket if it's score-based.

A points system would be too exploitable. Give me a partner and 2 hours and I'll get myself 3000 points.
