suggestion: make it so when you assign mass attack orders the target that gets assigned is always the closest enemy to the group of friendlies you have selected
I don't understand, do you mean you want to be able to squad target people while using squad hide? Does it uncloak you or something?
He means target OTHER people who are using squad hide if you manage to spot them. I'm neutral on the idea.
it's the empiresmod forums when theres nothing in your post that they can disagree with, they will disagree with what you could have posted.
Okay fine, I am actually arsed to give you my first thought when I see this. Would you please give a better definition of "closest enemy to a group of people".. wut? BECAUSE, if I am not misunderstanding, what you are suggesting is unthinkable, since there's no clear definition of "closest enemy to a group of people" We(at least I) don't understand your suggestion, what do you expect us to reply? Of course we'd reply to YouzY's suggestion.
Well, it is pretty clear to me... So, you select a group of your infantry (it doesnt really matter if a group or single infantry unit) and you try to give them targets using A and drawing a box and inside that box will be for example 3 enemy infantry units. What FN wants is that the CLOSEST enemy unit should be selected as a target to the group/single unit that you have selected instead of making it random targets. And in a simple way. The closest target will be always selected to your unit/s. Iam just thinking that even if there would be a way to do this, there might be problems selecting targets to a group....but nothing is unsolvable
I believe that's how it's supposed to be, but it's a bit complicated. Jephir(?) posted somewhere how it generally works.
Black = teammate Orange = Enemy https://dl.dropbox.com/u/22159878/target0.png This is the simple case, the closest enemy is obvious. https://dl.dropbox.com/u/22159878/target1.png This gets a bit complicated but still shouldn't be hard to solve. https://dl.dropbox.com/u/22159878/target2.png In this case, how do you construct the algorithm to decide which enemy is the closest one?
Make it so that it will individually give targets even if you select a group of infantry... cant be more simple
I WISH it's this simple. There's more issues but I can't draw 3-D image to show them. But if this is really easy to code(I doubt it is), I'd still support this. Because if this isn't easy to code, the advantage of implementing this wouldn't be good enough to compensate. Single random target <==> Single closest target. There's really not much difference, considering enemies are running around.
A 3d image? For what? Making single unit select single closest target is pretty simple to me. Really dont know what you wanna do with 3d scenarios, because after all its still only single distance, no calculations necessary...or you must have misunderstood me EDIT: It would pretty much just require recoding the method that targets are selected for a group and of course recoding that instead of random targets, the closest one will be selected. But that is my guess as I have no idea how the emp code looks (Iam aware that its extremely messy).
