Some of the servers are using different versions (e.g. beta 0.22). You'll have to try a couple of servers before you find a good one.

Looks like shit, doesn't play brilliantly either. Can't say I like it much. It's just a normal FPS with one gun, the most unappealing visuals I've seen in a very long time (the atari at least had bright colours) and a building gimmick which frankly, empires does better.

 

I tried it but got weirded out by the effect when you looked down and stopped playing.

 

Goal of THE game is to get THE Intel of THE other team, tunnel behind lines then steal Intel ---> win

No, but what is the purpose of digging tunnels and placing blocks in ace of spades?

The point is to turn an area of the map to your advantage, you can certainly do that in empires, you don't do it the same way but placing walls and buildings is much more efficient than digging tunnels and placing blocks.

Tunnels serve to increase mobility, which empires achieves by using spawn points, while walls and armories and barracks and turrets provide the defensive benefits.

The approach may be different but the goal is similar, and empires does it better.

 

Ace of Spaces has far more players than Empires, and it has only been out on beta for only two weeks. The majority wins. You lose.

It's also a 30 second entirely free no-dependency download which is in the middle of a memetic spread pattern, being essentially a clone of an existing memetically popular game, minecraft, with a single alteration, weapons.

Empires is a huge-ass requires-steam need-to-buy-hl2 game which has never been memetically popular and cannot be described as <popular game> with <minor feature addition>.

Quality has nothing to do with it. It's popular because it's convenient and free and because minecraft is popular.

Chris why are you so irate, is there anything you like? please tell me how you can make your own custom looking tower or bunker in empires? no you can't cause you can't make a custom anything unless you were the mapper who put it in. And if you say it's only popular because it's a clone with guns of another popular game (with completely different rule sets), then according to that logic empires should have over 9000 players since the half life franchise, css, and tf2 are really popular games(?), going neck to neck with all the killwhores on call of duty.

And you can't compare empires with ace of spades because they are completely different games, empires is an fps with a strategy element and ace of spades is an fps with a sandbox element that dominates the gameplay.
